Anyone recommend a good deal. Looked at a few but all look similar to me - was drawn towards the plusnet one - anyone had any experience of them?
    Ta in advance

Always had NTL/virgin cable. I am led to believe that fibre optic cable is better than phone line based ones. However, I can't compare, but ours is very good, would recommend virgin.

No other offer touches sky. I pay 7.50 for unlimited broadband. Barnsley won't get fibre until 2043

post office for phone 13.25 and you get free calls to mobiles on a weekend and unlimited internet with plusnet 9.99
sky is more expensive unless you have sky tv, but factor in if you can get their 6 months free and its cheaper long term
also look at any connection fees.

ps, i'll refer you if you go with plusnet, n i'll get ten bob knocked off ;-)

Moved my broadband and phone to sky yesterday and am delighted. 6 months free broadband and then cheaper than previous supplier, also phone line rental cheaper than BT. They have even sent me a £25 marks & sparks voucher. Well pleased.

Plusnet fibre for me, with line rental it comes to about £34 as we are in an 'expensive' broadband area. About the cheapest fibre I could get, we'll happy with it.

As I found out, getting broadband through the phone line is a bit like gas and electric, more or less the same speed regardless of which provider you go with so if the speed is good enough for you go with the cheapest.

If you are in a virgin area look into that, you can have their fibre optic broadband only which removes the need to pay line rental - this will generally make it the cheapest option and it will be much faster than ADSL/phone line broadband

do not touch talk talk, absolutely crap, type talk talk complaints into google and you'll see where i'm comming from.

Thank you for submitting your speedtest results. This will aid our technicians if you have an issue.

    We recorded your speed as
    Download 381 KBits/s (47.625 KBytes/s)
    Upload 383 KBits/s (47.875 KBytes/s)

With the current speed test you could download the following:

    Mp3 in 1.39 Minutes
    Video in 4.66 Hours
    DVD in 23.33 Hours

i'm in dispute with them and these are my current speeds...i could walk faster.

47k/s is terrible really, as an average. You should be getting at least twice that, as a minimum. uTorrent gets up to 600k/s, dependant on seeders..

Cheers everyone - something to think about. Been with aol for years which I believe is part of talk talk now - had a problem with the phone the other day which was dealt with quickly to be fair - just need faster , more efficient broadband. Internet gets hammered in our house so need a bit more speed and coverage

Just a quick note, even if you move to another provider who uses a BT type line you will not get a much faster speed, if any, as it will be using the same line as before. The only way to get an increase in speed is by moving to a fibre optic line.

Which ever package you choose, check out their traffic shaping & fair use policies, it may be that they slow the speeds down during busy periods or if you use P2P,Newsgroups etc.
