Keith Borrett, who was well known at Oakwell, PA announcer in the 60s, 70s and 80s, stalwart of Barnsley Hospital Radio for many years sadly passed away this morning. I have known Keith for almost forty years and he was a good friend who will be sadly missed. Condolencies to Win and the rest of the family, RIP Keith, hopefully the Reds will get a cup victory in your memory today.

Sorry to hear that. His grandaughter was in my class at school, so she had him read out a request for us at half time one game. It wasn't quite the same at Oakwell after he hung up his microphone, although I know he gave a lot of time for the hospital radio as he worked with the Supporters Trust to raise the funds to keep it going. Condolences to his family and friends.

    More sad news

Following on from hearing of Brian Arblaster. Mr Borrett always came across as a warm & knowledgeable announcer. No one doing the job since Keith has come anywhere close to him.
    R.I.P. Mr Borrett.

Really, really sad news. Keith joined the Supporters Trust board last year and his passion for the the football club and our fans will be sadly missed as well as his dedication (and commentaries) to Barnsley Hospital Radio. A truly top bloke who will be missed by many!

I would like to also like to echo my condolences to Win and the rest of his family.
    RIP Keith!

    Re: More sad news

I agree with your sentiments there. His voice was distinctive and he just did the job he was required to do, without any histrionics or ridiculous attempts to whip up some kind of atmosphere. The guy at Anfield is the same - a recognisable voice, doing a very good job. Mind you, my memories of Keith's time as an announcer correspond with the period of Oakwell gates around the 3-5,000 mark so it would have been difficult to get people too worked up!!

Strange how these things happen though - you often hear of the death of one person and shortly after another goes from the same era. As others have said, Brian was a more than capable goalkeeper, signed from Chesterfield.

RIP both and condolences to the families

Such sad news, I had the pleasure of working with Keith in more recent years in his role as a BMBC School Governor, came across as a damn good bloke.

RIP Keith and sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

Really sorry to read about Keith. He was a good family friend for many years and I shared many hours with him in the Grey Horse and Miner's Rest in Old Town. While he could come across as pretty dour at times, he was very knowledgeable about the game (it might have helped that his brother was a top flight ref too) and his heart was most definitely in the right place. Condolences to his family. RIP Keith.

Why did Jason Thelwell stop doing it? always thought he was a very good announcer and good at getting the crowd going.
