...house prices in Ardsley will take a dive seeing as the HST2 route appears to cut through the estate (well very near at least) S'ppose for those that can afford it getting to Meadowhall for a London train is better than Barnsley- Meadowhall - Doncaster or Barnsley -Wakefield Kirkgate- Wakefield Westgate! Typically Barnsley will suffer years of disruption (can only imagine chaos at Stairfoot and Pontefract road towards Cudworth) without any real advantage for the majority
I didn't realise the route had been published in such great detail, do you have a link to the information? I'll probably be a pensioner when it's completed like.
Try this... https://www.gov.uk/hs2-phase-two-in...profile-maps#route-map-west-midlands-to-leeds "Govt Preferred route" - as in "let's see how much of Barnsley we can level" ;-)
I have just looked at the plans for the section at Ardsley. It clearly states that this section will be twin tunnels. So they are going underneath the estates, so possible subsidence would be the only real issue for the home owners. I live at Ardsley and thought they were going to knock my house down, panic over!!
Mental, there's already a closed line that goes thro Cudworth from Sheff to Leeds, why not use that ?
Not that I'll get any benefit from the line but it's good that the station is at Meadowhall, will really cut down journey times to London as I'm sure the fast services from Barnsley to meadowhall only take about 12 minutes?
Prices still be cheaper on east coast as I imagine HS2 be the Concorde (prices) of the rail network. I can live with extra half hour journey once in a while.
Are the letters on that the proposed stations? Used the ICE trains in Germany for the world cup, brilliant, went that quick they made your ears pop and the double decker ones made it quite easy to fare dodge.....
I live on Wombwell Lane just after Gosneys on the Wombwell Side and was also panicking! but look like it goes straight through the old quarry and Yorkshire Brick Yard and then up the disused track towards Swaithe at the side of where Polar used to be - looking at the elevations its out of the tunnels in the brick yard and then over a bridge to get over Wombwell Lane. Gonna be chaos on there while they're doing that - think I'll be walking to Tesco instead of taking the car!
