Just a bit of hypothetical fun. What would you prefer if offered a choice of two now? Another FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley... OR Guaranteed survival against relegation this season
I'd have to go Cup Semi. Relegation/promotion happens all the time for a club like us but an FA Cup semi-final is a special chance. Plus the revenue from it would hopefully give us a great chance of building a strong side in League One if we did go down.
Agreed. I do like the new Wembley but the old one truly felt like the home of football, despite the bogs that made the West Stand variety look NASA engineered
You're joking surely. in 38 years of following the reds I've witnessed 4 promotions and 2 relegations. we're hardly a yoyo club. Those last 4 seasons we spent in the pub league was the worst 4 seasons for me. it has to be survival.
I take your point, but I'd back us to get back into the Championship before long, but a shot at getting to the FA Cup final isn't likely to come round often. Although it happened for us 5 years ago so maybe that's not true!
It would be fantastic to reach the fa cup final but not at the expense of relegation. It's the worst feeling ever, (in football terms of course)
I'd probably take a cup win over survival, just because I reckon we'd have a good chance of coming straight back up. But if it was a cup win followed by us languishing in the pub league for 3+ seasons I'd have to go for survival.
If it's semi final and lose or stay up I'd choose stay up. If it was win the FA Cup (which let's be honest, won't happen!) or stay up I'd go for winning the Cup without question.
In 36 years of following the Reds I can't agree that repegation is the worst feeling (although it's only happened twice). Being in administration and all that went with it was. I'd love another crack at winning the Cup and would take a Cup final over staying up. As it is I reckon we're going down anyway, so why not make some money and have the glory too! But I also don't subscribe to the theory that getting to Wembley last time nearly sent us down. I think it did the opposite. I was at Watford a few days after Wembley and the determination the lads showed that day completely negated that argument. We were in a relegation battle whether we got to Wembley or not. Similarly this time, I think the win at Hull was vital in maintaining the momentum and the possibility of getting to the quarter-finals will continue to gee the team up. It's going to be a struggle to stay up and will take a couple of good results to get us to Wembley, but all they can do is continue to fight and the more winning we do the better, whatever the competition. But seriously, to have won the Cup a few years ago I would happily have given a kidney. Or a leg. Or an arm. **** it, one of each!
Staying up for me. I would rather have another 46 games in this league next season. And financially, being in this League next season is far better.
