Just been down to Oakwell to buy my ticket with my dads season ticket so I can have mine for £20.
I took with me £20 in change which iv been saving for this game. £5 in 2s and £15 in 10s and 20s which I counted out and bagged up into 8 money bags.
The man at the counter said "I don't think we can accept that, let me check". After 2 mins he come back and said "sorry we canot accept it were not a bank, take it to a bank or post office to change it and come back".
I expressed my disappointment and on leaving the ticket office a femail member of staff shouted sarcasticly "BYE".....
In times were gates are low and money is tight I wouldn't have thought this is how fans should be treated.

Does any one know anybody at the chronicle???? I'm sure The Don wouldn't be pleases about fans being turned away in this climate...

maybe they don't have the weighing scales they have in banks to make sure you aren't fibbing?

they could count it out themselves i suppose...

    thats amazing.
Surely they cannot refuse legal currency wether its in notes or coins.
Sounds like they just couldn't be bothered to count it.

Couldn't you have called at a post office or bank on the way to make it easier for them. They aren't exactly awash with staff down there!

They are also within their rights. Legal tender is considered as follows:

    • 1p - for any amount not exceeding 20p
    • 2p - for any amount not exceeding 20p
    • 5p - for any amount not exceeding £5
    • 10p - for any amount not exceeding £5
    • 20p - for any amount not exceeding £10
    • 50p - for any amount not exceeding £10
    • £1 - for any amount
    • £2 - for any amount

I think it's because we're a sell out most weeks that they can take that attitude.

They are quite entitled to refuse the payment as presented, but a little bit of leeway never does any harm surely ?

I Only had £5 in 2s which I offered to remove and pay on my card the £5 and there was £15 in 10s and 20s so legal tender wise they should have accepted. I take your point about calling to the post office before hand but I didn't honesly think there would be a problem

Of course it does harm, first you let someone pay for a match ticket in coppers next what will they want?

    Customer focussed. Club deserves relegation.

**** me. I've read some nonsense on here before that's just aimed at knocking the club, but this one takes the biscuit. Go on mate, ring the Chronicle and let them laugh at you.

You think the club are right to turn paying fans away?

Wouldn't a better option to have said, hang on, I'll see if the club shop can change it?

    Pissing in the wind.

Still, I should not be surprised when the owner dreamt up the NHS Internal Market.

Did yoy carry on like this at the Co-op, Don?

i think the club are right in this instance. the lads got a card and has already stated he could have gone into the bank beforehand. i honestly give up with the mentality that some have.

You should have called in at the bank on your way to get it changed into £20.

As mentioned before, there is a limit to the amount of change you can fob off onto a business.

Imagine if they'd have taken it and there was a queue having to wait 30 mins whilst the poor person re-counted it.

The mentality of the club is to battle any ****er that causes them some work. A simple solution would have been to pop into the Club Shop and chnage the money for a note. Too hard to think that one up when you are getting one over on a fan.

This is a fans talk site were fans come to talk good and bad!!! Iv been a fan of BFC for 20 years+ and this is the only season I havnt been able to afford a season ticket!!! I don't make a habit of slating the club but in this case I feel the need to share my experience.
People a entitled to there opinion that is what this site is about and my opinion is that BFC ticket office attitude towards me was totally out of order!!! Never mind the money aspect it's there attitude towards a fan that got to me!!

I can see why they could ask you to get it changed at a bank. However I've had instances in the past where the box office staff's general attitude stinks. I've been in before, bought tickets for me and a few mates to a couple of away games, spending probably over £200 in the process and sometimes they just talk to you like your stupid.

Very little enthusiasm for the job, okay not many people love their job, me included, but I show some enthusiasm at least.

It's just one of many things down at Oakwell that needs attention paying to it.

Eh? How is that a simple solution...so instead of someone in the ticket office counting it out, someone in the club shop does it?!

Either, the OP was deliberately being an idiot and not thinking to change at a bank or post office where they just weigh the bags, OR, and this is the one I think it is - it didn't actually happen and this is a wind up...new poster!

    Two sides to every story.

I've never seen more than 2 people working in the box office, every time I've been they've been quality. I've seen shops refuse that amount of change before because the cost of actually counting it in time is just not worth it.

But I'm sure the club could've done something if they weren't busy.
