I have a similar story regarding Barnsley box office.

I went down with a cow that a farmer friend had given me and guess what? to this day i still have not received my magic beans.

I agree with the ticket office staff, what next, folks carrying giant 'Bells' whisky jars in full of copper to pay for their season ticket, get the money changed into some reasonable tender or pay for the tickets on your card and pay the shitty change into the bank man, FFS

PS. I regularly go into the ticket office for a shed load of away tickets for the lads and the staff are always brilliant - they get some stick on here but you ought to spend a bit of time in there and see what sort of thick numpties they have to deal with on a regular basis

Agree entirely. Always had a bit of a laugh and chat with 'em, never been anything but helpful.

I think the OP is just taking the piss.

The club did right in refusing to take £20 in little change

If you bought a pint for £1.75 in Chennels and gave a £20 note and got £18.25 in little change would you be happy?

Agree with what you say and also have similar experiences with the box office staff. Some of the way I've have heard some people talk to the staff is also disgusting.

The club might not be awash with staff but they're not awash with customers either. They should be bending over backwards to sell tickets. Very poor customer service. A club in our financial state should do what ever is possible to get money, they should not be alienating people.

Rule of customer service - NEVER make it difficult for customers to give you money.

Especially when a business needs more of it.

If we all rolled up with a jar full of coppers the match would be over and we'd all have frostbite on our old chaps! :frown:

Meanwhile the club shop has been ransacked and someone's pinched the floodlights.

Much simpler than ****ing him off. It was worth asking a question before telling him to do one and I can't imagine the club shop is rammed at this time in a morning either.

If it was my shop I would have taken the money, simple as that.

Did you ever watch Swapshop on a Saturday morning?

Next time take down some roller skates,a hula hoop and a stretch Armstrong. That should cover it.

Shock Horror!! Bright red in box office support post!!

Think you've got it wrong on this one sooty. I would never expect to be able to buy anything with a load of coins. Handling cash costs businesses money. Typically about 3% of the value of coins is paid to the bank when depositing it. So you'd effectively only be paying about £19.40 for your ticket!! (P.S. I know it probably costs them more if you used a credit card but forget that!)

Would you be willing to ask the customer to wait twenty minutes while you count it out?

Go into HMV with £50 worth of 1p's then to buy a couple of games or CD's and see what they say, even in their predicament

I've always found the ticket office staff helpful and can understand them not having the time to count out loads of small change, however, and assuming the poster is telling the whole story (eg how exactly did he 'express his disappointment'?), no matter how busy they are and how tempting it must be, there is absolutely no excuse for sarcasm to a customer. If that aspect alone is true then it needs sorting.
