If Stones is sold for £3m it would make him the 4th most expensive U19 year old right-back in the history of the game. It would also make him the 13th most expensive U19 defender of all time. As a comparison Raphael only cost Man Utd £2.6m Link here to the list: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/t...ansfers_alle_19_default_Abwehr_alle_alle.html Clearly a very good deal.
Just to say that again - It would make Stones the 4th most expensive U19 right-back of all time. I think some people here forget defenders, especially full backs dont go for anything near the value as other positions.
We get it. We just think that we could have got more now or a lot more later! It seems Wigan will get that chance now. ****ing Wigan.
Well you get it, not sure about the other ones! I can see it's more fun to moan on about the club undervaluing him, but clearly it's not true. Another statistic - In the British game only Glenn Johnson has gone for more money at the same age.
Thing is, the money at the top of the game now means that the transfer market is always appreciating, so comparisons with previous deals, especially those done a few years ago in different circumstances are effectively meaningless. As an aside, Raphael would have brought with him all the issues of a very young foreign player needing time to settle in a strange and different culture etc, which was probably reflected in the price Utd were prepared to pay for him. Also he couldn't also play at centre-half when he joined Utd - Stonesy would be able to. Different circumstances.
And as we both know, Glen Johnson couldn't even defend very well (still can't), so John Stones is clearly a better player in his position(s) than Glen Johnson was at that age.
Lets see at happens. Could be£3m cash and a loan back. We could have a sell-on clause too. I think £3m is hard to turn down.
Your post suggests then that you do not achieve value in the transfer market by selling players in that position at such a young age. Crazy idea but how about we keep him for a year or two seen as he is still under contract and sell at a time when we would achieve better value
Well you kind of make my point for me. Despite the appreciation of transfer fees, nobody has really gone for more money.
Your heading says defenders and then you narrow it down to right-backs. He'll be the 13th most expensive U-19 defender or the 6th most expensive full-back - doesn't quite sound so ridiculous in that context. Stones is by no means the finished article and there's no guarantee that he'll carry on improving at the same rate (Anyone remember Martin Gorry?) so i tend to agree that £3 million for him is about right provided they have add-ons for future transfers or England caps.
Buullshit.... absolute bulllshit... just talking about deals puts a deal on the agenda... you are brainwashed... pounds and pence.. whats he worth.. you will get what accept... a fooking deal... what we have got here, is something that is very special. we have a chance here to be a part of something very very memorable... with a very special tarn lad... and what you and other fooking idiots on here are accepting of.. is getting screwed by fooking Wigan or fooking Fulham or fooking or Stoke.. If we are broke, If Patrick is broke and we have to do this, i'd be accepting of selling our best junior in half a century (too early). Right now, I have not heard anybody give a good reason for what has been speculated about on here. I fear that a big fooking mistake is about to be made here... (a much bigger mistake than kneejerking a job offer to Terry Fooking Butcher when you have Flitcroft and Branston already working for you). and right now, I can feel everybody coming together for a battle and a cup run... the feeling is great, and what the fook are we about to do?? I will despair if John Stones get sold for no good reason.. there! fook off..
sure scott flinders was the next best goalkeeper future england man etcetc uproar at getting 1m for him were is he now??
