Stones is talking to both Everton and Wigan. Stones expressed a wish to leave. He won't be coming back on loan, both want him in their squad. Don's been reading this board because he made reference to the price of under 19 players as was mentioned earlier. Rory Delap has been brought in to replace Stones. So wing back at 36!? Edwards is a short term loan to Shrewsbury. Done to Hibs is a loan until June if it goes through.
So it's a good deal but up to now we have brought in loan players, where is the money going from for Stones deal?
It's Everton. I'm just watching SSN and the bloke at Everton's training ground reckon Stones is ten minutes away.
Re: why? Don started talking about real time decisions rather than hindsight. Sounded like sellers remorse.
Re: why? We've done the best deal we can. The player indicated he wanted to speak to the clubs. Reckon it's less than the £3 million up front I was hoping for.
Even so we don't have to sell him do we if we're not happy with the fee? He's on a long term contract. Tell him he can go in the summer if he wants to.
To be fair, Neil Thompson must have been the slowest wing-back I've ever seen, and he was still very effective there. Must have been quite far the wrong side of 30 by then as well. Though Delap does turn 37 this summer, which is surely pushing it a bit even for a very fit bloke?
Not heard actual words from Don, suspect it will be the same sob story of finance, and we cannot turn it down. Good luck to lad he owes us nothing and it is a good career move but it would have been better if Barnsley had said come back end of year and you will get first chance.
