It's the best we can expect. Now, be good little boys & girls and shush whilst the big misters get on with it.
Re: I bet Everton's 'CEO' knew he'd been in a battle yesterday I always think it helps negotiations when everyone at the club tells the press what a player is worth. The amount of time Hill/Flicker et al have mentioned 3 million amazed me. You should never play your cards face up.
Re: I bet Everton's 'CEO' knew he'd been in a battle yesterday Hardest negotiations he's ever been involved in. Was just one of the things not likely to have been uttered...
Re: I bet Everton's 'CEO' knew he'd been in a battle yesterday Flicker hinted at a bigger fee. It appears to me that the first sign of half decent money and we collapsed. I don't believe for a moment that Stones pushed for this.
Re: I bet Everton's 'CEO' knew he'd been in a battle yesterday It is strange that £3 million is around what relegation will cost us in lost revenue!
Seeing as we're assuming £3M, it's probably fair to assume £3.5m for now as I guess Everton beat Wigan's bid by enough to put Wigan off. Either way, for an inexperienced player, it's still a very good fee by our standards and I'm sure there'll be a sell on clause (right?!)...
What should have happened is that a Chairman of some standing should have phoned Bill Kenwright and said a fair price is x and we've brought the lad on so we're entitled to a clause should you sell him for big money. Thats what the previous Chairman wouldve done. When a man of no substance is left to negotiate, you get what your given.
Re: What should have happened Are you talking about Shepherd or Dennis? Because I don't recall us ever doing very well out of transfers that Shepherd dealt with (Howard/McIndoe etc).
Re: I bet Everton's 'CEO' knew he'd been in a battle yesterday Don "Here it is then Bill, it's £3m upfront plus add ons, and loaned back for rest of season." Kenwright "You can have £2m plus add ons, and we don't want to loan him back" Don "Ok then"
Unfortunately the Academy production line was dry in those days, Ive told you what happened with McIndoe, offers were rejected for Howard. Both previous Chairmen had contacts in the boardrooms at other clubs, hospitality was offered and bridges were built. Phone calls took place between Chairmen when our interests were protected and our arse wasnt exposed financially. We dont have a Chairman, a man of substance that can network with other Chairmen and protect our interests. We have the office manager. I bet good money there is no clause in Stones' contract so save this thread for when Everton sell him for £10million and we discuss wtf we arent getting a piece.
Re: Unfortunately And for all that we were never better off in terms of selling players were we? And that was at a time when we had the scope to buy better players because of Cryne's support. I'll take that bet...
Players like John Stones dont come round very often. We shouldve secured the clubs financial future for years, not just covered the debt for relegation. If you believe anything that Don says, more fool you.
Re: I bet Everton's 'CEO' knew he'd been in a battle yesterday Flicker said it was a good fee for him. Stones was told about the offer and said he was interested in talking to Everton. They offered good money and we accepted, not collapsed. It's not that difficult.
Re: Players like John Stones i know im like a stuck record but at £3m that made him the 4th most expensive U19 full back ever sold in the history of the game. If it's such poor business there must be many more clubs being ripped off worse than we supposedly have.
