The club have sold a player and are satisfied with the amount of money received, leave it at that. If you went and bought a new car you wouldn't dream of asking the garage how much profit they were making on the sale.
To be fair fans have an investment in the club and generally have a right to know what the fee is. Having said that we aren't going to be spending any of it anytime soon, so not publicising it isn't going to stop valuations of players we might be interested in increasing. In this case i'd say the club would be best server saying exactly what it is. Although £3m with a sell on clause seems to be the general concensus... Soccertransfr website has the basic fee at £3.1m. See here: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/t...rde/transfers_alle_19_5_Abwehr_alle_alle.html
Agreed. Think we all know that fee is around £3M + sell-ons/appearances/etc. I am happy with this approach, especially as if we made any grand announcements to the wider world, we would then be seen as having cash in the bank, and then "raped" by other clubs, agents and players. Good business BFC.........I support it.
Do we have a 'right to know'? There's nothing in the T&Cs of my season ticket that says this. or anywhere else that I can see. We'll find out when the accounts are published, until then the club is within its rights to withhold this information. I'd be interested to know what the figure is, but we're not in a position to demand anything, by 'rights'.
Us fans dont get to know much about what happens behind the scenes. We havent got much to go on that we can use to gauge the effectiveness of the directors. So the amount of money the directors get for players is something the fans can judge on. I can safely say that the vast majority of fans generally think the football side of the business is run relatively well. However, the same fans think that the everyday running of the club; shop, ticket prices, stadium facilities, refreshments etc are not run as effectively as they could be. Plus......... when it comes to getting money from the sale of players the directors ALWAYS seem to drop short. The fans realise the more money we can get through selling players then more money will be available on bringing other quality players in which of course will then provide the club with a better brighter future. That's why the fans are keen to know how much we are getting for players. So in a nutshell........it is to gauge the effectiveness of the directors and its in the hope that more money raised through transfers will enable the club to progress.
I'll give you 3 reasons: 1. This is a BFC message board. If people on here didn't want to know details of the deal then there would be something amiss. 2. As paying fans we are THE key stakeholders in the club. Without fans there would be no tv money, no sponsorship deals, no money for transfers or the academy. There would be no club. We have a justified right to know. 3. The owners and management of the club are accountable to the fans above all else. In the same way that the team manager is. Therefore we have a right to know that they are serving ours and the clubs best interests by doing their jobs properly.
We don't have a right, it's true. We've got about 7,000 season ticket holders at Barnsley. It's because of our money that the club exists at all. People say it's because of Patrick Cryne and that was true, when we were in real trouble, but the continued existence of the club is down to us putting our time and money in to it. It's our club really, we support it and we finance it. Don even said as much at the recent meeting. As a result we like to know what goes on there. We've no legal right, but we'd like to. Those in charge could quite easily tell us, but they choose not to. Personally I think that says a lot.
Mike.....I am not saying I disagree with you, because you make some valid points. But in my own little world, I do not really care whether BFC announce the transfer fee or not. Personally I think "we" are getting wound-up about nothing; BFC have got an acceptable fee and we are in a run of good form and giving ourselves a fighting chance of staying up. That's how I see it old boy.
You're right. I agree with everything you've written here, but stomping our feet and demanding to know things, will have no impact on whether we find them out or not. If the people who hold this information want to share it then they will, if not they won't. As I said I'd like to know what the fee we received was and I think they should tell us. But we can't demand anything. If I paraphrase what was stated elsewhere, it would help continue to build trust between the club and the supporters. But that's still a long way from it being our right to be informed about every detail, of every aspect of how the club is run, that a number of people (not necessarily the poster I quoted above) seem to think is essential.
No other businesses publicly announce what they paid for a particular asset (except from buildings), so why should a football club.
I didnt really mean a legal one, more of a moral one I suppose. But you're quite right, there's nothing to say the club have to say anything.
I agree with you on that, they have a moral responsibility, I suspect they feel that there would be an outcry regardless of the fee + add ons received.
Thats correct, I give much more in a month to Mr John Smith than I give to BFC in a year and I don't want to know their business dealings, I just get on with enjoying his products as I do with BFC. I know people are going to say, BUT, we are fans, not customers, well my answer to that is, I am a fan of many rock bands and once again I couldn't give a monkeys about their dealings either, just as long as they keep making music I like. As far as BFC is concerned the main thing I want is survival as a club first and then to see them play good football second and in as higher division as we possibly can third. If this means devolping and selling players then so be it, I am dissapointed that I won't see Stones develop further but that was also true about Hirsty, Speedy, Flinders etc. I will get over it and hope I see another young un come through and earn us some more money.
