    Quick question;

Where did the Toby Tyke emblem come from? the one in the top left of this site?

I'm curious because its probably the most recognisable BFC logo amongst the fans but the team have never wore it on a single shirt!

It's never been the official crest

I'd be quite interested to find out where it came from.

Remember it from when i were a kid in 90's, but I know it was never on a shirt or a crest.

The original Toby was a bull dog which was owned by a director of the club.

I remember them bringing the dog onto the pitch at one game.

He never really took off as a mascot until the 90s.

I think it's the best emblem of the lot to be honest. I know some people aren't fond of it and perhaps see it as chlidish but I think it's the most recognisable emblem we have. It just screams Barnsley Football Club to me. The white rose seemed too Yorkshire generic, not a massive fan of the town's emblem as we've got now. I think the above badge is great.

Yes, the original mutt was a pedigree bulldog named Toby Jug and I remember seeing him walked around the perimeter track before matches. Late 1960s, about the time of the great revival when we had Jimmy Robson at centre forward and big Eric was scoring goals for fun from centre half. Eee, those were the days. George Hamstead could plonk a corner on Winnie's head with regular monotony and Eric invariably got a header on target. Scored a lot of goals. Never see the like again I fear - nobody knows how to take a corner any more

cheers lads, I never knew Toby was a real dog!...

The Toby logo is all I can remember from being a kid, the 90s on flags, t-shirts and other merch; nowadays its in pubs windows, and car windows, also a popular tattoo amongst the hardcore.
It just seems to be so popular, more popular than any official emblem so I was just curious as why really.

@SambaTyke - I agree I rather like it too, although its not my favourite I have to admit that the 90s white rose one is. The current one is sh!te although the shield is okay its the council logo that makes it look crap! the club should take the white rose of old and put it with the current shield, that would be a top emblem!

The best badge on the shirt was the Oakwell symbol. Probably to do with my memories of the Clarke/Hunter period. It just looked class.

Toby Tyke was a real dog originally.

Before my time but the owner used to walk him round the pitch before kickoff.

I can remember the cartoon dog on the front of the official match day programs back in the 70s.

Looks like I typed that with my ball bag.

Should read: "Am I the only one that quite likes our badge now?"

A cartoon bulldog on our shirts would make us a laughing stock.

that badge we have now is a joke how many miners and glass blowers do you know, its time we stopped living in the past, we're getting like Leeds, he i was to choose badge id have one like the old CFC Cheesea Lion badge , nice fancy BFC lettering with a nasty looking bull dog with a bit of tooth showing, after a wile it would shout Barnsley football club at anyone who sees it

    Classy.

So you're asking what relevance the town crest has to the town's football club??

I just hope no one from the club sees your idea.

I think the current badge with the "125 Years" on it is really good - looks quite classy.

    I prefer the current one

Looks professional, traditional (won't date), is unique to Barnsley and not just Yorkshire (like the rose).
