It's a close call; Graham Felton and Kenny Brown run him close, but it's got to be Alan "Mad Dog" Little. ;)

Good point, Mr C. Probably both points are relevant - bare knuckle street fighting AND being able to get up from a nasty challenge and still play your game.

I did think of mentioning Chris Morgan in my very first comment in this thread, but thought he was too much of a "persona non grata" with BFC fans!

    John P - I haven't heard of Alan Dugdale!

Graham Pugh is a good shout, Tarntyke.

And I like the comments about Duncan Sharp, Gordon O - I'll have to ask his son who I'm good mates with!!

Keep the comments and memories going!

    Alan Little
    Graham Pugh
    Gwyn Thomas
    Gerry Taggart
    Kenny Burns
    Darren Sheridan
    Mal Shotton

All mentioned before but they'd be mine.

One of the dirtiest though was Rodger Wylde, wouldn't say hard, just plain dirty.

In the replay I thought it was John Gannon who Stevie Cooper knocked out. The game had only just kicked off and he was in a heap on the floor.

Never thought Rodger Wylde was a particularly dirty player, I used to love watching him though, especially when he used to rip the p*ss out of opposition players/officials and get the crowd involved - he was my folk hero of the time!

The HARDEST player ever to play for BFC? Duncan Sharp!

    Unquestionably.

My first Barnsley hero and I only got to meet him for the first time last year.

I saw Sharp play but I don't remember him.

The one I do remember is Alan Little. Hard as nails and no pace whatsoever.
Pat Howard was also rock hard.

    Gwyn Thomas gets my vote.
one of my all time favourite players. A great, tough midfielder.
Did he ever wear shin pads? lol

I know he wasn't a Barnsley player but does anyone remember Billy Whitehurst?

Jeez he was one scary mofo both on and off the pitch.

If I recall correctly Cooper drop kicked Tony Agana in the head from the kick off in the league game at Bumhole lame. I have it on video somewhere?
I also remember him walking upto a Port Vale player (Porter?) and kicking him clean up in the air from behind with ball nowhere to be seen!

Gwyn Thomas (AKA Tank) never wore shinpads. I think if he was still playing he'd be sent off every game as some of his tackles were bone crunching.

Big Mal Shotton was a monster.

Whilst Roberts was undoubtedly a dirty *******, I have to point out that it was actually Darren Wood who stamped on Gwyn Thomas' knee. People at the game just presumed it was Roberts as he had the reputation.

I thought that was a reference to his alleged antics at the Christmas do one year (90ish?)
