Hello, Alan, Man City Supporters Club member here. If any Barnsley fans need any info about the ground, parking, travel, etc, I'll try to do my best to answer any questions. Iv'e done this for a few teams over the last few years including Glasgow Rangers, Blackpool, Notts County, Watford, Afc Wimbledon, Luton, Notts Forest, and a few I can't remember. Enjoyed the banter with most of them ( eccept Luton ), let's hope it's a good un, and both sets of fans enjoy the day. okkidoke.
First bit of advice is to stay away from the Official Car Parks if you can. A Ripp Off , and can be a nightmare to get a quick exit from after the match. A good car park is down the hill past the Merc garage, half the price, and there are some others say 1/4 mile away, on Grey Mare Lane. The road is blocked off after the game behind the away end, to let the coaches out about 15 - 20 mins after the game.
Jay I suspect most Barnsley fans will park down Grey Mare Lane, a short walk to the ground behind the away end. A better exit to Hyde Rd back to Yorkshire, or at least on that side. I think several schools open their grounds on matchdays, it's usualy about a fiver in those.
Hi Alan, welcome to our humble abode. We were hoping we would draw the big club, but you will do. We had MK Dons in the last round so it's like we are going on tour from from one sham club to another! We'll enjoy knocking your overpaid, under-achieving prima-donnas out of the FA Cup, thanks! We dress like United, so just pretend it's them doing you over - it will hurt less. Don't panic though, I think it will take another trophy-less season before the owners pull the plug and send you into obscurity. Cheers for the banter!
Mario Kempes There are not too many away fans boozers knocking around behind the South Stand where you are for the day. The two big ones at the top of Grey Mare Lane, are sticktly City fans only and the beers like piss. I have seen a few away fans in the Etihad Bar further down, and the best pub around there is called The Townley, short walk away, but worth it. Other than that, The Mithchel Arms down the hill towards town is reasonable, but a lot of drinkers drink in Manchester before the game anyway, which could be your best bet. Manchester 1. 1/2 miles away something like that.
Nightmare Either Walk down Picadilly aproach to the gardens 200 yrds. Wetherspoons pub has buses outside.... £1.50p to ground........ or Metrolink Tram to ground is now open £1.50....... 5 mins journey although packed last week against Leeds, it seemed to go alright from what I heard, Bit chaotic after though. Buses after the match behind the away end, although a bit of a rugby scrum. Walk..... takes about 20-25 mins.
Had a drink in Mary D's a few times, you're right its like witch piss. Like the tower lounge in Blackpool but painted blue! And we'll struggle to get in the pubs around Picadilly, the doormen are knobs. Waldorf & Wether's is the only one we got in last time for a football game and a night out, they don't take kindly to gangs of more than two.
Gonna get something to eat Just leave them on here, I'll get back to you soon Oh I forgot, Programme £3. not a bad one either, one of the better ones.
Gorden Yeh the place is f.......g unbelieveable, a real sh...h..l, but a top atmosphere, on it's day , but full of lunatics.
Will the reception be as warm as the last time we played you in the cup? Bit skint at the moment as well - do your fans continue to throw coins at the away fans throughout the match - need to pay a bill or two
so its a game between the self proclaimed best manager in the country even though you continue to lose to clubs whos team cost less than one of your players wages. Versus actually the best manager in the country in our super DAVID FLITCROFT. And in 3 weeks time you will be having a trophy less season just like your London cousins. We are probably doing you a favour by whipping your butts at least your pre madonna manager will get the bullet. GOOD LUCK YOU WILL NEED IT ON THE DAY YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU REDZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
No I think they've reverted back to the ridiculous inflatable bananas. They have no money to waste as times are hard in Stockport at the moment.
