Don't normally by Q magazine but got given one this month. There's a huge David Bowie tribute. And a review of his new album, 5 stars apparently

Not heard the album mate but I did not think much of that single he had out lately. Got good reviews but to me it was pretty poor stuff. Hope the album has better tracks on it but I'm not holding my breath.

I agree with you about the single, shockingly poor , in my opinion anyway. Just like Macca and Elton, time to turn it in now.

Law of diminishing returns applies - the bigger your age/and or bank balance, the lower the artistic output.......haven't heard a good (original) Bowie track since 81......happens to most, unfortunately....c'est la vie!

I've heard a few tracks on the new album including the new single and I thought it was pretty good; without a doubt his best song since absolute beginners.

Scary monsters (and super creeps) 1980 was a classic album and his new offering is not as good but it is on a par with his later albums such as Heathen (2002) Lets Dance (1983). Definitely noy a Bowie classic though.

I know his earlier albums best, Space Oddity and Aladdin Sane especially. Loved all my dad's old vinyl.

The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane are Bowies best albums and are all time classic albums. Best heard on vinyl though.

I worked a bit on the upcoming exhibition at the V&A before I left, running conservation checks on works on paper coming in on loan - many of which from his personal collection. Some interesting stuff - photographs, fashion designs, album art work, lyric cut ups etc.

I heard he was being a tiny bit of a prima-donna about it, thought he would have more control over it and got politely slapped down. It's got a decent budget so it should be good, and very profitable no doubt.

Lets hope its better than the Ice Age Art Exhibition at the British Museum , the artefacts were interesting but the presentation abysmal, was there on Monday, redeemed by a half decent steak pie and some good beer in the Museum Tavern across the road

Sad I know, but I love the iron-work exhibition hall.

    Re: V&A

The Gilbert Scott choir screen is one of the most impressive things in the museum and a bugger to clean by all accounts. There's probably 5 or 6 times more stuff not on display, in storage or out on long term loans.

Do you think they'd make a long term loan to me - I could do with a set of late victorian estate entrance gates :)

Just heard Bowie's latest release on the radio. Its the title track of his new album, sorry I didn't catch the name but the track sounded not too bad. Certainly a better offering than that first release a couple off weeks back.

Not a Bowie classic but it's pretty good IMO and certainly better than most of the ***** that gets passed off as music these days.

On the subject of classic songs I was listening to Born to Run by Springsteen today. It was on the featured album on smooth 70's radio.
