Don't know if Fergie's been instrumental in that, but it continues his long-standing respect for our club. Didn't his brother laik for us or summat! Anyway, nice touch - cap duly doffed. Will he lend us RVP for the rest of the season?
His brother did play for us yes. Martin iirc. Fergie has always had a soft spot for us. Not a bad ally.
Seriously though as a Barnsley fan I do like they way he has spoken about us and helped us out in the past.
I remember Martin playing for us. Decent centre forward (as we called them then) at 4th division level.
Yes Fergie agreed to let the Reds train on Carrington - he does have a soft spot for us but he also has a hard spot for the Noisy Neighbours - Every little helps - Dont worry bout a ting!!! Also the team will be returning home rather than stopping @ Mottram Hall this week!
Re: For Eric Winstanley's testimonial .. I suppose it won't hurt the lads to rough it there for a couple of days, builds character.
Also the team will be returning home rather than stopping @ Mottram Hall To train on Mottram Street - jumpers for posts etc.?
I'll be down there this evening, my daughter has swimming lessons in their training pool. Man Utd give up their facilities for free for swimming lessons for disabled children. Hope the lads are still there, it'll be surprising to them to find a Barnsley fan inside Man. Utd's inner lair.
Have a **** and put it in RVP's locker. For no good reason that I can think of. Fair play to Man Utd with the free swimming and that as well.
I get my daughter changed in the changing room marked "First Team players only", I once took some shower gel from there, I imagine it was Rooneys and he thought someone of his team mates had nicked it as a joke about his hair transplants and he got stroppy with them and that was the point when he stopped scoring goals. Probably.
Maybe we can stop singing "Your dad's a lovely person and so are you" every time we play Peterborough. What with him letting us use Man Utd's training facilities, ringing up our new manager to wish him well and offer advice, sending us a steady stream of loan players, providing teams for testimonials and that. Makes us look like, well, cnuts.
Martin works for Man U now as a scout - the same guy who played for us. SAF has a soft spot for us in this respect because he says that we gave his brother a chance when no one else would. Martin came on a free from Partick Thistle as a raw, big, muscular wing half, but quickly switched to number 10 striker alongside George Kerr. the pair went on to score a hat-full for us. i can remember one header of awesome power by Martin to win the game against table-topping Torquay at Oakwell. We then committed the cardinal sin of selling him for £10k to Doncaster Rovers, with whom he had such a neat haircut that I could hardly recognise him, played less than a dozen games and then disappeared, never to be seen again. I never found out what happened to him after he left Donny. Strange. £10k was a lot in those days.
And they gave everyone lots to talk about on Tuesday night, while we were having a unimportant, boring match of our own.
