Been a great servant for the club and will go down in history for his Liverpool debut but his time is up at our football club, he just hasn't progressed he's got considerably worse, he's a good shot stopper but he doesn't help defenders at all. In a defence confidence comes from the keeper, he's our captain for some reason but can't command his own box never mind inspire a full team. Pros: Good shot stopper Cons: CAN'T and WON'T ever improve his kicking, he has no technique. He stops first shots but palms them back into play rather than out wide of the goal. He is so indecisive when a ball is played through his starting position is poor and he always stutters back and forth and causes shakiness in the defence. He sits on his line at crosses and doesn't claim any crosses or corners. Thanks for your service but I don't believe you deserve a new contract and be on top pay at our club. Sooner he's dropped the better our defence will be. You reds!
Disagree...Steele has saved us many times over the years and has done a lot since that Liverpool game. From the top of my head...last season, in the last minute at Elland Road, he stopped a Leeds equaliser with his face and also tipped a number of shots over the bar against Peterborough in that 4 - 3 game. Have noticed recently though about him palming shots back into play and most of the time back to the opposition. If Steele does go, I think Ben Alnwick is a decent keeper..had a few clean sheets with him in goal earlier on this season - think there was only that Forest home game where he made any bad mistakes.
Very, VERY harsh!! He has and is still very good for us!! The save at home to Wolves the other week was brilliant at a big moment in the game!
Alnwick played really well early on in the season. A problem with questioning luke his Alnwick not fit and not training and thats the reason he didn't go to spain. I think the best goalkeeping display came from Ben at charlton this season. He came and collected so well, i thought it was Heinz back in the net. His kicking a lot better too. I'm getting quite frustrated with Luke but some just like to get on at certain players that come in to the team and take over players they think should be always playing. Peoples comments about Ben in the summer were shocking and they don't seem to want him to do well.
The only way I would not give Luke Steele a new contract is if he prices himself out...and wants money we cant pay. On his day, which is more often than not, as good as you will get in this division...
I don't have anything against him, and I'm all for positivity but I just think if we stay up (which I think we will) or go down, we need to rebuild our defence and build the team around mellis. This season we have been carrying Steele through games, he has no presence apart from picking ball out of his net, look at the goal at Burnley was a cross that was 3 yards out, a confident keeper would have out their body on the line to cut it out rather than stand hopelessly on the line. Since Madine smashed him for pigs goal he's just had no presence and it's costing us every game.
Steele is still the best keeper at the club and one of the best in the championship. Does any one seriously think we'll get a better keeper if we let him leave?
I only commented when they've played badly. Go back, look at the summers post. The comment about Ben were horrid. I think Ben's a very good goalkeeper. If they play good (theres more leap years then good performances from one) i will happily say.
For once we have a great young goalkeeper in the nets, who has stated before that he has a soft place in his heart for our small little club and doesn't want to leave and you post saying you want to get rid of him? baffling!
And other people comment about Alnwick when they think he has had a bad game. Problem is you think there is only you entitled to an opinion. Yer a bit of a joke tbh, IMO obviously.
i will openly say Ben had a shocker against Forest and i think it was Ipswich he let the ball go under him but that's all.
What about the head-butt on the Rochdale striker, that was quite shocking? Luckily Bobby was there to save the day.
