Re: Is it just me that doesn't find it interesting at all I respect what Flitcroft has done but Bobby Hassell is a proven championship player who should be in the team. Versatile and committed and has kept a dignified silence. Long odds on for the drop if he does not play.
Thank-you for your advice. I did listen to the interview again, and you know what, I was right. Can I offer you the same advice. The section you are interested in starts at 5:30. The interviewer asks about Mellis. Flitcroft avoids the question. The interviewer asks again. Flitcroft says the team has been winning. The next section relates to Hassell. Flitcroft says again the team has been winning. He also says the question is disrespectful. The interviewer asks again and Flitcroft says all the players should be fans favourites. To my ears, Flitcroft avoided the questions about both players, as is his habit when questioned about replacing players already established in the first team. Do you really expect him to discredit the players who are doing a job for him. Do you really think that team morale will be improved as a result. You obviously believe that this management team as well as the previous manager have a vendetta against Hassell. Can you explain to me what the motive is for this vendetta, because if there is no motive, there is unlikely to be any vendetta, in which case Hassell is not playing for football reasons. Do you really think that it is good for the club that you undermine the current manager. What do you hope to achieve. Do you really think that your actions are going to help the club in its fight against relegation. When we should all be pulling in the same direction, does it help that a significant minority are pulling in the opposite direction. Did you not notice that at least two managers with average records of success turned us down before Flitcroft was appointed. One last piece of advice. If you want the club to survive, the best course of action would be to get behind the manager and the players, at least until May. Then you can do exactly want you like.
Re: Is it just me that doesn't find it interesting at all To be fair the Radio Sheffield lads ask our fans on Twitter for any questions and people always ask them about Bobby.
u are right mate wiseman an mcnumpty are league two players at best thank god mcnumptys out an wiseman gifted nasri so much space to set them first goals up saturday was unreal to leave hassell out is just spiteful
I just wish Flicker would be honest about Bobby. If he's not good enough - tell us and even better tell us why. If he did, I'd probably believe him because he knows a damn sight more than me about football. Can't see this approach offending anyone either, certainly not Bobby himself - he'll know exactly why he's not getting a game anyway. For me, I would bet there's a rift between Flicker and Bobby. This is the only explanation for Flicker's, frankly, rude response to a reasonable question. Personally I'd be playing Bobby right now, with relegation looming we need his experience (something which Flicker himself has pointed to previously). Taking everything into consideration, I rate Hassell higher than McNulty, Wiseman and Kennedy. A back 3 of Hassell Foster Cranie would be our most solid imo. Bobby could also drop into midfield if we have any injuries e.g. Dawson recently.
Leaving the Hassell response to one side Flitcroft, and Hills, obsession with bigging up the opposition publicly does my head in, leave all that back slapping for after the game not the day before
Is there anyone on the planet who actually knows LESS about football than hemsworth-tyke? Tough call, but I'm not sure there is.
If the team has been winning, how did Tunnicliffe go straight into the side? Please provide a précis of that one... Also, the two choices above Flitcroft turned us down because of the lack of money and direction in the board room.
This thread is about the comments that Flitcroft made in his radio interview. The question of Tunnicliffe's position in the team was not raised by the interviewer. If you are suggesting that Tunnicliffe is in the side at the expense of Mellis or even Hassell, then from the limited time that I have watched Tunnicliffe, I would have to disagree. In my opinion, Tunnicliffe is in the side because Dawson is injured. Whatever the reasons the two managers turned us down are irrelevant. The facts are that Barnsley FC was not seen as an attractive prospect among prospective managerial candidates and I see no reason why a club who under fund their managers as compared to other clubs in this league and then repeatedly sack their managers because of fan pressure can be viewed as an attractive proposition to any decent candidate in the future. However, this was not the point of my post. My point is that the best way to achieve what we all want, which is Championship survival, is to get behind the team and the current manager. Everyone will get their chance to have their say come May when the managers contract is up and his success or failure will be known. Until then, all this sniping is counter-productive.
Hill was not sacked due to fan pressure. There were hardly any chnats for his head or anything. Just a mass of empty seats. Neither was Robins. I think we should be playing Mellis instead of Tunnicliffe. I have no idea why he is getting in the team. This board exists to discuss the rights and wrongs of team selections, performances etc. By his own admission, the manager has got it wrong in the first half of the last five games.....
I'm sorry, but if empty seats (reduced revenue affecting the profitability of the club) is not fan pressure, I do not know what is. If Barnsley supporters continued to turn up through the bad times in the expectation that their faith would be rewarded, there would be less need to sell of our emerging talent and the team would be better as a result. Instead, they decide that the club must be punished because of their lack of success, they stay away and in the process, they cut off their nose to spite their face. There would be less need for the board to base their policies on short term imperatives and more investment in long term planning if they could rely on their revenue streams. Robins left because the board reduced his budget below that which he felt he needed to compete in the division (see previous comment). This board exists to discuss the club, and no one is seeking to limit that freedom of speech. My point is that it is not the right time to be undermining the manager or the players and in the best interests of the club they love, contributors should seek to limit their contributions to less divisive posts (comment not particularly aimed at yourself). This site is famous for over-reacting to both success and failure. The over-reaction to the defeat by City is unbelievable, even judged against the standards set on here. We all have our favourite players. Sometimes those players are not picked because other players give the team a better balance, in the opinion of the team manager. I suspect that if the team wins tonight, and that team does not contain your favourite, it will not matter. The team is more important that an individual player.
We win despite Hassell not playing and lose because of it in the eyes of some. He'd get in my team but by all accounts Wiseman has been decent since I've been away. He's got the majority of things right since he took over. He deserves the same amount of support now that he got a month ago.
Can't or won't, either way it leaves it open for speculation that Hassell is being overlooked for reasons other than football. Flitcroft hinted at a possible reason when talking about Wiseman getting some stick from fans ,HE impied it was because Wiseman was replacing a fans favourite and compared it to his time at Macclesfield Town when Flitcroft went as Captain and a Town favourite and stalwart Darren Tilson was shown the door. Flitcroft went, contract cancelled, after 6 months....it could be colouring his judgement on Hassell. I get the impression that Flitcroft, like Hill, wants to to be the Captain of the Team during the 90 minutes, they don't want a player who can give players directions on the pitch , Hassell's a leader who gives players direction on the pitch, its not liked, Hill didn't like it and neither I suspect does Flitcroft.........thats why you end up with Steele as Captain......its all speculation of course
