Such a shame, one of the country's top talents who's career was ruined by injury.

He has been in semi retirement for years. Quality when he was younger though, his injuries were a massive shame. If he had stayed fit I have no doubt he would now be top scorer for england.

Like him or not, he was an exceptional player on his day, who had the potential to be one of the best players in the world imo, yet injury stopped it.

He may as well have retired years ago; he's been stealing a very good living from football for years.

Thought he was too good to drop a league so decided to bench warm and pick up a big wage in the Prem instead, a total lack of respect for the game imo.

Quality player in my eyes and legend - scored some unbelievable goals. For those saying that he's stealing a wage (like all the others sat on Prem benches - what makes him different?), I'm pretty sure he's on a 'pay as you play' deal at Stoke.

Looking forward to seeing more of him on MOTD, v insightful.

Aye but he did throw himself about getting at least two of our players sent of in THAT game...

That wasn't the problem. Owen made the most of a couple of dubious challenges, like any striker. Morgan and Barnard were sent off because of Willard's inability to judge the game or understand and implement the rules.

Stumpy went for telling him as much in his own colourful way.

    Class player.
He always wanted to try and play. It's not his fault he got injury's. He quite simple wasn't managed well at a young age.
He was flogged by liverpool and England at 17/18 year old and onwards.

    Make that injuries and greed

lost respect for him when he was happy to get paid for sitting on the bench year after year.

Its not like he needed the money. I think he'll look back on his career and think he wasted the last 5 or so years.

There is no suggestion he has faked his injuries. He wouldn't have played if he was contracted to a L1 club. He will probably look back and curse his luck with injuries.

He didn't win much! Not as good as Phil Neville.
