Drunken debate in an indie club last night. I went for: Funeral - Arcade Fire I am a Bird Now - Antony and The Johnsons And finally....Is This It - The Strokes just nicked it from A Ha Shake Heartbreak - Kings of Leon.
Couldn't argue wi any of them above ...esp sparkle horse r.i.p. ... other contenders Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside out White Stripes - Elephant Calexico - Feast of Wire
Difficult one. Most of my favourite albums came out in the 80s and 90s but I've gone for:- Shadows Fall - Of One Blood Metallica - Death Magnetic Augury - Fragmentary Evidence This could change tomorrow though.
Another two could be... Illinois - Sufjan Stevens Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - Flaming Lips As Mr Troutman states - this will probably change within 5 minutes when I remember more stuff Good shout with the Daniel Johnston but it misses out as I have a preference for his earlier work.
That really is a truly great album and sorry to be picky but didn't it come out in '99? I went to see them in Stockholm, back in '06 I think it was (the day after I saw Sparklehorse at the same venue) and they were brilliant. I have to say though that they were somewhat disappointing at the Barbican last week - very hit and miss. Top 3 is a toughie. I'm going to have to think about this . . .
Piece of pi$$ 1. Radiohead - In Rainbows 2. Boards of Canada - Campfire Headphase 3. Elliott Smith - Figure 8
I know, it was a bit pernickety but in my defence the category was "Top 3 albums of the 00s". I'm going to settle for "Correct, but pitied", a mantle I'll wear with pride for a short time but which we both know really belongs to someone else . . .
I do like to be picky! : Release date: February 22, 2000 (according to Wiki anyway....) Some good LPs being listed anyway.
I saw them in Manchester last week and thought the same. The rock out songs were great but there were too many mellow moments for my liking and why the need to play cover versions in the encore when they've got so many great songs that they hadn't played!?
Saw them in Leeds last year, before Fade, (which I think is an excellent LP too) & they were good. Hadn't seen 'em since about 2000 then when they opened for Television at ATP & pretty much blew them off stage. They are getting on a bit - a bit like myself!
Ah, interesting (well, kind of). Google says "The album was released in February 2000 by Matador Records. Wikipedia ... Release date: February 22, 1999" To settle it I've just gone and hunted out my copy of the album and sure enough the sleeve says 2000 so you were right and I was wrong. I said that mantle was never truly mine.
I wasn't sure myself, wiki says 2000, google says 99. Then I dug out a review of a gig I went to at the time.... http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/1999/dec/08/popandrock
Now the "debate" has been settled I'm going to go along with John Peachy for one of my choices which are, in no particular order: Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out Ryan Adams - Gold Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues (/The Lyre of Orpheus)
Pretty impossible to decide on a definitive top 3, but certainly 3 that I love very much and keep coming back to are: Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus! Manic Street Preachers - Journal For Plague Lovers Pete and the Pirates - Little Death
