    Difficult one. Most of my favourite albums came out in the 80s and 90s but I've gone for:-

    Shadows Fall - Of One Blood
    Metallica - Death Magnetic
    Augury - Fragmentary Evidence

    This could change tomorrow though.

    That really is a truly great album and sorry to be picky but didn't it come out in '99? I went to see them in Stockholm, back in '06 I think it was (the day after I saw Sparklehorse at the same venue) and they were brilliant. I have to say though that they were somewhat disappointing at the Barbican last week - very hit and miss.

    Top 3 is a toughie. I'm going to have to think about this . . .

    I know, it was a bit pernickety but in my defence the category was "Top 3 albums of the 00s". I'm going to settle for "Correct, but pitied", a mantle I'll wear with pride for a short time but which we both know really belongs to someone else . . .

    I saw them in Manchester last week and thought the same. The rock out songs were great but there were too many mellow moments for my liking and why the need to play cover versions in the encore when they've got so many great songs that they hadn't played!?

    Saw them in Leeds last year, before Fade, (which I think is an excellent LP too) & they were good.

    Hadn't seen 'em since about 2000 then when they opened for Television at ATP & pretty much blew them off stage.

    They are getting on a bit - a bit like myself!

    Ah, interesting (well, kind of). Google says "The album was released in February 2000 by Matador Records. Wikipedia ... Release date: February 22, 1999"

    To settle it I've just gone and hunted out my copy of the album and sure enough the sleeve says 2000 so you were right and I was wrong. I said that mantle was never truly mine.
