    We couldn't handle Madine.
Their centre halves won everything and our midfield couldn't get close enough to support.
They went long so our lads couldn't close down.
We got sucker punched when we were on top.
RNL didn't track his man and the first time they put a cross in they scored. Gutting.

They brought us down to their level and they won. Thought Kelvin was awesome first half and Scott Wiseman was solid too.

Ah well. Win our home gamea and we stop up. Need to find space for Dawson though. I'd drop O'Brien. Works hard but rarely produces.

    I don't understand the propensity

On here for denigrating the various types of contribution needed from our players. They belittle and conveniently ignore what a player brings to the table and exaggerate what they perceive to be his weaknesses. For some (as an example), it's our 'heart of a pea', 'show pony' Jacob Mellis. For others, it's 'no talent', 'no contribution' Jim O'Brien. Every player who has played on a regular basis this calendar year has made a positive contribution to our run at some point. It's a team effort and everyone is playing their part, even when not at the top of their game. We win as a team, we lose as a team.

    Good post.

What I'm not understanding is all the clammer for RNL to start?

I'm trusting Flicker to continue making good decisions......he's den us proud so far.

I thought bring RNL on cost us a point yesterday. They didn't look like scoring until we changed it out wide. JOB had a poor game but he offers far more defensive protection than RNL does. As soon as we made the change they had some joy down the flank.

True we didn't but a draw would have been a good result yesterday, all things considered.

    I'm not 'denigrating' anyone's contribution.

All I'm saying is we have a player back from injury who I think should now be playing. Of our four midfielders I think O'Brien is the one who's not playing as well as the others. Probably because he's a winger and being asked to play central. Not having a go at him at all.

Sorry, but when you say he rarely produces, I can't see how that can be regarded as anything else other than being denigrating and having a go at him.

Mate, you know I'm probably the most positive poster on here so for you to pick on one sentence is a bit OTT. Maybe I should've added extra context - 'when playing centrally he rarely produces'.

If we're playing with real wingers he should play. However, I've always thought it strange that when playing with a narrow midfield like we have under Flitcroft that he's been picked in front of Mellis. Now Dawson's back if we keep the same system I'd have him instead of O'Brien.

I'm a grumpy, old git at times

This is one of them times!
I've even had a telling off from from Laura for having a go at you! Sorry, mate. I think I ought to celebrate Easter by drinking an odd glass (bottle) of wine, or two.:D

Some of us can't be bothered to take umbrage. "Heart of a pea", again another comment taken out of context. Surely it is these differences in ability/attitude that help you pick your best eleven, cos none of em are perfect.

I'm down, but not out. For an hour we were the better team and they scored against the run of play. Keep the faith.

I believe we'll be okay and survive. As it happens, I think both Mellis & O'Brien are excellent players for us. They both have different qualities and styles and, for me, both have made positive contributions to our run under Flitcroft.

Mellis is absolutely vital. Set up Bobby, scored yesterday and only one that looked to take a man on.

If we're playig him he needs to be behind the strikers, not out wide. Back to the old diamond with Perkins, Dawson and Kelvin?

Yeah, I'd go along with that

And if the opposition clogged up the midfield, we could have the option of bringing on the likes of O'Brien, RNL or Cywka to provide width.
Flipping easy this football management lark!
