Deliberately choosing to go down is cheating

Is it always that straight forward though? If a player gets clipped and goes down when they could have stayed on their feet - is that cheating? If they stay on their feet and don't score, is that sportsmanship or naive? If a player makes contact in the box, are they making the decision for the player and ref?

Yes. The foul hasn't caused them to fall over, they have CHOSEN to do so and have simulated falling. That is cheating.

    Neither. It simply isn't cheating.

    No

going down under contact which wouldn't otherwise have caused you to go down is cheating...never want to see our players doing it.

ok. so just to test your resolve and extend this hypothetical debate further...

last game of the season, huddersfield away. we need 3 points to stay up. it's 1-1, deep into injury time. we've battered them and deservedly took the lead. they got a controversial equaliser, with their player half a yard offside. with seconds on the clock, daggers makes a run into the box. their player makes a fair challenge but makes slight contact in the process. daggers is off balance, with the ball heading for a goal kick. if he goes down, we get a penalty and stay up. if he stays on his feet, the ball goes out of play and we go down.

if he goes down, we stay up. if he stays up, we go down. what should he do?

So you are happy to corrupt the club and the game of football?

What about putting itching powder in the goalie's gloves? You draw the line at that surely?
