Below is a link I've lifted off twitter showing income for the championship clubs excludingparachute payments.

Although some of the figures are estimated its quite startling to see how little the club actually makes from commercial activities.

Around £1.2m last season. Only Doncaster made less.

It could be argued that barnsley aren't an attractive club etc but neither are millwall, peterboro, burnley and Watford yet they all have tapped into this income stream with a greater degree of success therefore boosting their coffers.

Could it be argued that the clubs who make the most money are the most proactive in seeking this kind of investment and revenue rather than waiting for the phone to ring . . .

That's really interesting. We really need someone to come in and look at this as there is obviously money out there that we're missing out on. Maybe we should use some of the cup money to look at avenues that we are not exploiting to make money. It would pay off in the long term surely.

The guess won't be that far out phil.

Leeds are substantially larger than barnsley and had ken bates in charge.

If there's one thing that dodgy bugger knows what to do its make money.

I think the fact that they have had to use an estimate because it is not fully analysed in the club accounts suggests a lack of scrutiny on commercial activity at Oakwell

Remember that Leeds with one of the largest fan bases outside the premiership, considerably larger than that of west ham in the grand scheme of things.

i can walk into any sports store around here that sells football shirts and leeds shirts are always hung there, you never see a west ham shirt.

which shows that leeds commercial side of things is working well.

If the club allowed our shirts to be sold world wide would we sell as many NO of course not. But i would love to see a reds shirt for sale at world soccer shop or soccer.com like quite a few championship clubs have.
As a club/brand we have to some how find a way to tap into the world market,it was easy for leeds/west ham due to past glorys.
Barnsley FC biggest income stream is the media,if that was to collapse like the ITV Digital deal then we would be up the shitter really

From the graph it looks about £4 million, but I thought I'd read in the past it was £6 million, but I could be mistaken.

Because the turnover segmentation figures are estimated I'd take them with a pinch of salt.

However, I do have a personal perception that compared to how we were even in the mid 90's, let alone with other clubs, we don't seem to do anywhere near enough with the community to groom the next generation to attend Oakwell or to encourage commercial organisations into the fold.

I understand the club has little resource at it's disposal (in numbers), but it's how you prioritise and utilise that resource... and thats where I think we fall down.

I don't believe for one second that Leeds has less debt than us.

That would mean the internet, Sky and ESPN collapsing.

    A bit unlikely.
