..."Parties in bad taste" show some respect he says! She showed NO respect for many of the working people of this country. Hitler gained popularity/power by demonising the Jews as the enemy within and Thatcher used the same tactic to demonise the unions. Yes in some instances the unions had too much power and some leaders had a political agenda rather than simply protecting the rights of the union membership but she went way beyond simply clipping their wings and demonstrated a true hatred. I have never been a miner and was born in the South although have lived most of my life in the North and particularly Barnsley. I have no particular Left wing tendencies (nor Right) and cannot find a political party that I can truly support as they are polarised and whilst I agree with elements of both Left and Right, I strongly disagree with many of the policies and attitudes of both sides. However, having seen what went on during the miners strike, even though it had no direct impact on me or my family at the time other than witnessing the decline of what was once a proud town and community and the vitriol put out by the establishment and the Right wing press at the time, I will just say this: Blair should keep his mouth shut if he cannot comprehend why such an unprecedented outpouring of hatred towards a political figure is taking place by such a large proportion of the population. Rant over!!
Agree mate. I personally haven't been celebrating her passing despite the fact that I loathed her. However I fully understand those who are throwing parties. Many people have been waiting a long time for this. Too long. Putin on the other hand, I think if he snuffed it I'd be six foot under with alcohol poisoning within 48 hours!
Pretty much sums up my views except I lived a mile from Cortonwood until I moved down south and had friends and relatives who worked down the pit. Personally I would rather celebrate positive things than the death of someone who no longer had influence but I fully understand those who are partying now
