i was cynical initially, but they've done a lot to improve content. interviews, extended highlights and match day commentary. it's compatible with the football league app, so you can get all the content on mobile as well as desktop/pc. also found out today that it's a common membership, so you get access to all the other 'players' too, which have different highlights and interviews etc. works out about 10p a day, and a few more quid back into the club. well worth it
Less than a pound a week live commentary of every game, with the option to listen to oppositions commentary if you really want to, and you can watch all the games in full after, the extended highlights, plus all the interviews, including exclusives from players. Deffo worth the money. This isn't guerilla advertising either!!
I think it's fantastic, as the others have said... live commentary every match, short highlights and extended highlights, full match avaiable to watch day after, pre and post match interviews with Flicker and players. Excellent value for money! Pretty certain they're doing a free trial at the min so you should sign up for that and that'll give you a better idea. As everyone's said too it's not just limited to Barnsley so you can log onto other teams to if you want/listen to any Championship match live.
It's not bad, although the official highlights of each game on there are cringeworthy simply because of the commentary. You generally get one of three blokes all with their own annoying speech habits trying to sound as if they are commentating on the game as it happened when in fact they are just recording over the highlights video. It's so obvious, especially in cases where the ball is pinging around and ends up in the net, they immediately know the name of the scorer when even the most ardent of fans would need two or three looks to work it out. They also notice the slightest of deflections which just makes it a laughable attempt to appear as if it's a live commentary. If they just summarised it would be a lot better.
I'm sure I heard somewhere that ... the club gets £50 for every fan that signs up. At that rate its almost our duty to join and bring coffers into the club. All aspects of the service have improved greatly over the last two years but the Live commentary is the Jewel in the Crown.
Hi Judith I have been a member of Barnsley Player this season and it is very good value! I work every Saturday and so can listen to the live commentary on my laptop, and so can my kids on their laptops (only 7 and 10, bless 'em but both been mascots etc). I can also watch highlights or the whole match on Sundays, plus interviews etc (never had time to watch the whole match!!). My only complaint is that the live commentary is about 30 seconds behind (as per comparing it to 5Live last night). I, and all the above posters, can thoroughly recommend it.
Really?? i thought it was the actual commentary from the match that you listen to on the day, put over the video. are yo actually saying that after commentating ont he game they then sit in a room and commentate on the replay of the match
Full Matches and extended highlights are from the commentary team for us, but the normal highlights that player uploads are with the dodgy commentators.
No, sorry but I think you're wrong, Andytyke. There are different people commentating on the video highlights and on Barnsley Player.
The full match is the proper commentary that we hear on match day's - the official football league branded highlights that come on there is basically 'fake' commentary.
Sorry thought he was talking about the full match commentary. Thought it was pretty obvious the FL highlights were a voice over, just like on football league show. wouldn't expect anything else.
I have it but can't seem to find live match day commentary on the mobile. I have a iphone , is it the football league app That I need?
Yeah that's what I had to use, although for Palace I could only get the away commentary which was driving me nuts!
Yeah you need the football league app, although I had some problems with it for the Leicester match. It cut off at half time then the 'play' button completely disappeared after!
Speaking as someone who remembers life before the internet, player is a fantastic resource for us to follow the club's fortunes and to archive and make accessible matches & interviews, What's not to love? I'd have given my hind teeth to have this when Glavin was laiking!!
