I said in another post that he was ours to lose and that I was convinced that if offered the right contract he, and his team, would sign them and stay with us. It's great to here Flicker speak positively about his future with us.
Its been a great run of results but he's still got to get over the 'staying up' line and finish the job off to get rid of the 'one half of a disaster' tag for me.......some may say that is harsh considering where we were when he took over but there is no victory in relegation, success is survival in the Championship anything else is failure.
There is a saying , Never look back, Flickers now his own man and Hill has gone. He is a spring of fresh air at Barnsley. His enthusiasm and love of his players can be seen after the matches. Don,t sour your support of Barnsley by comparing Hill with Flicker, they are two separate people altogether. Move forward Durkar and enjoy Saturday. Will be a roller coaster
Totally agree Homer.....rollercoaster is the right word,if we lose and results go against us we'll be back in the bottom three...which may come as a shock and spark an outpouring of negativity on here, even if that were the case I feel certain we have the right manager....and players, with such a battling never say die attitude that we'll overcome the setback, from reading the fans forums of the other relegation threatened teams I get the impression they almost all have accepted they do not have the fight that we have.
Agree its a roller coaster but lets hope its The Ultimate and not Oblivion .......I've always thought 'the players' were good enough for the Championship and think we'll do it but until we are there though talk of contracts and 3 yr deals are way off the mark........talking of sour ,I used to sup pints of vinegar but I stopped drinking up Wellington Street years ago.
Gerrim signed up, and Mellon. Even if we go down this management team are*wiart doubt the ones to bring us back up.
I think he loves working with the players and they like working with him. Hopefully that will mean he will stay and some of our better players will also want to stay. Just as important is getting Scott and Mellon signed up. While Flicker is a great motivator and man manager it's those two that have come in and helped turn us around. They're probably heavily involved in the tactical side of things and the players have mentioned them numerous times in interviews.
Of the elements within Flicker's control (i.e. our results) he has far exceeded what could reasonably have been expected of him. If we go down it will be due to the freakish nature of events beyond his control (other results). To not give him the job based on events beyond his control would be barmy.
I'll maintain my position on this. I think he'll only want to stay if we stay up. I think he'll leave if we go down - not because of failure, but because he'll take another Champ job. He's way too good for League 1
