Is it easy enough to do it yourself rather than going through a company?

I've never looked in to it before.

Think it's just as easy to do it yourself and you keep it all

I telephoned them back about an accident they said I could claim for (£4,150 was the figure I could claim. They asked me when it was and I replied that they knew that, but I couldn't remember as I had obviously suffered amnesia, and could they deal with it on my behalf. The phone went dead.

Contact your bank and they will send you a pack out for the accounts you believe may have incurred ppi, fill it in and they will conduct there own internal investigation.

We just printed template letters from here, sent em off,got crap reply.Sent next letter on list, got crap reply. Sent info and next letter to Ombudsman. Had a few letters back and forth (took a couple of years as they we're snowed under at the time as it had just come out) and eventually got nearly £3 grand back and kept it all to ourselves (apart from good donation to a local wildlife charity :D).

Cheers, JC. I'm looking at claiming back from the finance company I had my car through, but I guess because it was going through my bank account, the bank will be able to take charge of it?

The bank will say its the finance company, the finance company will say its the debt insurers, they will say its the finance company:rolleyes:

If the finance company sold you the insurance its them that you will end up claiming off as its THEM that SOLD IT to you and they are the miss-sellers.

Like I say you get fobbed off but just stick at it and keep records of letters etc. If they give in before the Ombudsman stage (which I believe more do now due to publicity) then it shouldn't take too long. If the Ombudsman gets involved it will take longer but they will have to pay you interest (8% I think:D) on any money owed from the date the ppi was taken out. I think that accounted for about a third of our money back:D.....longer it takes em , more they owe you;)

You don't necessarily get paid out just because you had ppi. At one point the bank I'm working for was paying out all ppi complaints which had ppi (pretty much a third of all ppi complaints are on accounts which never had ppi). They are all fully reviewed now where I work and a lot are defended as they weren't mis-sold. A lot of points that are complained about are easily defended.

But definitely do it yourself, cmc's take between 25% and 40% of any payout. And those that say no win no fee, that only applies to where the account had ppi and the complaint is declined. If the account turned out not to have had ppi they send a bill out for anything from £40 - most I've known is £300.
