Thought I wouldn't be able to stand to watch but it's interesting. Wish they'd let the guy in the audience finish his point about the Falklands War though
its practically an apology for thatcher, even menzies campbell is singing her praises when he couldn't stand her 20 odd years ago.
I lasted 10 seconds before I had to switch it off as some tit was going on about how Thatcher brought the nation together. I then turned over to Newsnight who were doing a piece on the 1980s. Gary kemp of Spandau Ballet was in the studio and his opening gambit was, "Well, the 80s started in about 1978, 1979" *click* There's more sense written on the BBS!
Had to switch it off. Very selective panel and audience and coming from Finchley. Would have been more interesting had the program come from Glasgow Liverpool or even Barnsley.
But why? It makes sense from Finchley given it was her constituency, there are dissenting voices although Poly Toynbee hasn't been on as much in last 10-15 mins, and Blunkett is good as well. Seems as balanced as could be expected.
blunkett is pi55 poor and they've held it in Finchley because its thatchers patch. this show wouldn't have been the same had it been held in the north.
from what i saw it wasn't the panel that was the problem, the audience seemed all stereotypical clones from the "thatcher generation" hardly saw an elderly or middle aged person in there, somebody who actually was affected directly by events of her time.
I watched a bit of it and it was interesting. The point most were making is that the country HAD to change, following a disastrous decade of trade union rule.
