    its too late for that eaststander,,,we used to sing that when we were on strike and now theres hardly any miners left.

    ok dave, we've had a glimmer of hope in nearly 30 years..

    Barnsley as a town been obliterated and a year in the premiership hasn't made much difference.

    I'm not trying to be controversial dek and I agree that there has been inexorable decline in the town over the last 30 years. I just think that there are numerous factors that affected the football club. The main factors to me are the cost, the quality of the footiie, the availability of other forms of entertainment (multiplex, playstation etc). The decline of industry means that there is not the social ties of men who work together and go to the match together though I agree on that. In the mid 70s it was cheap and attendances were poor in spite of a level of near full employment.

    Only my opinion though

    we are singing from the same hymn sheet dave,I wasn't having a go at you.

    I feel so strong about thatcher and her government and what they've done to our town i'd argue with anybody at the minute.

    booing's a bloody stupid idea IMHO because of its negative connotations and the effect it could have on the atmosphere, and err booing what exactly, the fact that she's dead? At least some kind of song would keep the (hopefully) already good atmosphere going.
    Similarly any song linking it purely to the miners is wrong (again imho)in that ignores all the other selfish policies that she endorsed that have affected many many lives for the worse and enriched the mega bucks types and created a society where for example some folk can barely afford to pay their power bills - privatisation eh
