Interesting result I think - if I were a Cardiff fan I would feel a tad aggrieved!

Never mind the first half because that's not relevant.

In the second half I started my stopwatch for each substitution, ie start when the ref waved the sub on and then stop once the game was underway again. The six substitutions came to 2 minutes 27 seconds in total. Not sure what the formula for time added on for subs is but if it is 30 seconds per sub then that is not far off being correct.

In the first of the five added on minutes McNaughton went down in his own area - touch of cramp maybe, but looked like a time wasting exercise. However, the stopwatch only registered one minute before play restarted.

Er......that's it! Unless I missed something there were no other stoppages. I don't need a calculator to add 1 minute to 2 minutes 27 seconds and this does not add up the FIVE that the ref allowed. Foster scored 50 seconds beyond the end of those five minutes and the final whistle went a minute after that. Surprised he didn't add one more minute because we took so long celebrating the goal.

So......what formula do refs use when adding time on to every game you see? Never seems to make sense to me and it USUALLY goes against us. When we need a goal the ref usually adds about 2 minutes. Not this time though so well played the ref!! Maybe he was punishing Cardiff for two stupid misses towards the end on the lines of "You don't deserve to win this so I am going to keep playing until Barnsley deservedly score".

Unbelievable result really and 20-odd thousand Cardiff fans must have gone home spitting feathers all the way. Good job we didn't have a couple of thousand there as there might have been some serious trouble.

But he didn't extend it by a minute for our goal did he and surely he wouldn't allow two and a half minutes extra because of their goal?

I won't lose any sleep over it!!

It would have been bad luck if the final whistle had gone in the time between Fozzie making contact and the ball crossing the line.

If that had been one of our favourite referees he might well have done just that. Mr Kettle for example - mind you he would have added a minute tops and that would have been that.

Not losing any sleep by the way, just thought it would be interesting to see where he got the seven minutes from

If there is 10 minutes left to play and a goal is scored and the players spend 9 minutes celebrating then the ref adds on 9 minutes. If there are 10 seconds left to play and a goal is scored and the players spend 9 minutes celebrating then there is still only 10 seconds left to play. You can't add on more time than there is left.

You should also have stopped your watch for any instance of time wasting or for unduly long breaks in play such as if the ball goes up into the crowd and takes a while to come back, if there is arguing over a freekick etc.

The ref gave 5 minutes, that is totally seperate to the 1 minute added on for the injury in stoppage time which should be added on top of the initial 5

Yes, I know what you are saying but I didn't really notice any undue time wasting by either team. Obviously we wouldn't be wasting any and they wanted a few more goals so the second half had a good flow to it. Just baffled how some officials come up with "time added on". There seems to be no consistency, just like the rest of their performances.
