Whether it's mental or physical, players should be able to maintain a level of performance for three hours per week. To pander to them by making excuses is laughable in my opinion and we should be demanding more from professional atheletes.

The amount of stop overs in hotels and other things we spend cash on to look after the players I agree.

with all due respect manchester, my girlfriend has competed in 3 marathons, 100s of 10ks and half marathons, countless triathlons and is competing a full ironman in june. yet she wouldn't be able to compete in 5 minutes of a Championship game of football. completely different type of fitness.

Fair play to her mate must have taken some serious doing as just - is killing me! My point is 90 minutes twice a week for athletes that get paid thousands to stay fit shouldn't be a problem. This isn't just the barnsley team it's also the premiership players that moan like hell when they have to play 2 games a week

Got say that I agree even by football standards the games have hardly been coming thick and fast especially when you take into account that we have been doing so well since Flicker took over, they should be looking forward to getting onto the pitch and full of it.
This has got to be kept in context though because I haven't seen anybody from the club offer that up as an excuse.

i think the investment in the players has got us as far as we have, to be honest. i can't even start to imagine the level of fitness required to compete at this level, Sat-Tue. add injuries on top of that.

Running around a circuit is one thing, I do the Glasgow 10K myself for Barnsley Hospice this year, but playing football uses so many more muscles I find the two incomparable.

69 hours of competitive football spread out over nine months - what mythical level of fitness do you think that requires??

My wife is doing the same event. The amount of niggles, aches and pains she's got from training is unreal and she is definitely complaining about fatigue.

Running on the road/pavement certainly doesn't do the knees or hips any favours, regardless of age and physical condition. These footballers are so pampered they get to use grass.

Theres a massive difference between training just to make the finish line in whatever place you happen to end,and the physical efforts needed to actually outbattle and win against other extremely fit committed professionals...its chalk and cheese.

    Well how about this...

... you start running and every couple of minutes I'll kick you, barge into you, and knock you to the ground when you're going at full speed.

I've done marathons and played football (not at the same time:D ) Its a completely different ball-game (pardon the pun).

Both require stamina though and with all the modern methods we have now I'm sure the odd knocks are something that can be easily taken care of.
