If we go down it will be entirely due to the first half of the season and Hill. I've given up hoping for results to go our way because they're just not going to. Somebody is going down on 50+ points and Flicker has done everything possible to undo the damage Hill did and keep us in with a fighting chance. It guts me that the worst team I've seen, home and away, this season are almost safe thanks in some part to the six points we have given them.

IF we go down, would you expect us to win League One next season if we kept Flicker and the majority of this squad?

i would never 'expect' to win any league. but under flicker, with a full pre-season and the opportunity for him to build, i think we would take some stopping

even one tier down we need a better defence.

    Re: no I would not

to be fair dragon, at one stage we had stones, goldie, foz, hassell, cranie, kennedy, wiseman & mcnulty. not many better defences than that in the Champ. for one reason or another, it's been decimated. don't forget, only last week we conceded 1 goal at palace and cardiff.

    don't be too harsh

did not want to seem harsh

but most of season people on here have been screaming out for another central defender and another left back.

we've had a horror show against charlton. it happens. that doesn't render our defence terrible

Fans of most relegated teams say that. then reality kicks in half way through the season.

No because we wont keep most of the squad

Flicker will have to start again as the spine of the squad will leave - we havent even started contract talks yet so he might have a similar problem even if we stay up but I think if we go down we will at best be looking at a rebuilding season next year might be in with a sniff of the playoffs at best

And we have to keep flicker - no contract talks for that yet either

have to disagree. i don't think there's a manager in League 1, to touch flicker. above that, he already knows that league. half our squad have come from there. i've every confidence he will build and build strong, for the kick off. that said, i actually don't think he'll be Barnsley manager if we go down. so all pretty academic

Their fans may want that, but I doubt the players would feel like that.

no chance. professional footballers never want to lose. unless you play for neil warnock. he's probably capable of it, but that's it

if we go down I don't think we'll build and build strong, the recruitment process will be the same as it has been for ages, owt for nowt, regardless of what money we've brought in from the likes of stones and butterfield.
relegation will be to the detrement of the club without doubt,we cant get 8000 home fans in the championship so we'll be lucky to get 6 in league 1,ticket prices have been dropped and it hasn't made much difference, even on the back of a great run under flicker, whatever the circumstances are as to why people don't turn up,relegation will be bad for us,the loss in revenue is something we can ill afford to lose, both from ticket sales and tv rights.

agreed, relegation would be disastrous. but all things are relative. if we can keep flicker, i've got every faith he will build a fierce squad in League 1. if we don't keep him, i fear many dark years ahead in the alehouse league

Trouble is,is trying to keep him, players with a good 6 months run under their belt are lost for next to nowt and even if flicker stays with us into next season and we carry on playing half decent we'll lose him to the first club that sacks their manager. Our club is run on a week to week basis as far as ambition is concerned and we can slag the stayaways off all we want but this is one of the main reasons.

we are where we are. under the circumstances, the club is run very effectively. in spite of what the don-bashers like to think. we've played more games than ANY other club, in the second tier of football. that's an outstanding achievement, and demonstrates incredible consistency.

as for the stayaways - we'll have to agree to disagree. it's a symbiotic relationship. for the record, i have no problem whatsoever with people not attending a football match. that's their choice, and ultimately the onus is on the Club to attract fan base. what i do have a problem with, is the stayaways preaching their opinions. they don't care enough to go to the game, but they care enough to attack the Club at every opportunity. they know who they are

anyhoo, i'm standing with those at Oakwell on Tuesday
