RNL to train as wingback

Wing back is one of the hardest working positions on the field requiring fitness and endurance. I do not think that RNL has the endurance for the position. Equally, the lad has lost his direction since he burst upon the scene under Simon Davey. Then, it looked like his best position would be in the hole behind a target man. I never understood why he was allowed to drift out of the game to the left wing. I suspect that this might be make or brake for the lad.

 

Gareth Bale's played there enough..perhaps a role model?

 

I thought he look a bit fatigued on Tuesday. Not played enough competitive football.

 

Good idea. Would give us a lot of tactical flexibility within games. If we had Kennedy at CB in 3-5-2 with RNL at WB we could easily transform into 4-4-2 if things are not working. one thing I really like about Flicker is that he will change in game if things are not going to plan.

I think it's just about his all round development as a player. Reuben could play in a variety of positions and I for one thought he did OK at left back against Derby. He just needs games now, games games games - his crosses are some of the best I've seen at Oakwell for a while.

 

Not saying that, but didn't Jon Parkin leave over something similar? Bit young to remember exactly what happened with him.

Just play him in a attacking position.

 

Each player/personality is different.

Trust in Flitcroft and his coaches.

 

Reuben will make a good wing back, I'm sure he's keen to learn and break into the team any way he can.

 

He's not looked good enough in attacking positions.

If Davey hadn't have played him he'd have been released two years ago.

He's looked good in attacking positions. When he's played, he's played well. Sheffield away and Leicester away. Blackpool at the end of last season.....

and he was put in the first team because he was good enough. I don't understand that sentence Dyson.

Wing back has got to be the hardest position to play. You need to be able to beat a man, put a good cross in, defend and have the endurance and pace to get up and down. You're effectively playing two positions at once and the tactical awareness he'll gain from that should stand him in good stead wherever he ends up.

Training as a wing back has to be good for any players development because it involves so many different aspects of the game. I don't know whether Flicker intends to mould him into a wing back or if it's just part of his development. Unless you're an amazing winger, you need to know how to defend. Look at Vaz Te, Hill and Flicker worked no end on the defensive side of his game and he went from nowhere to playing in the premier league.

Without wanting to sound too much like Hemsworth, Ferguson always played Ji Sung Park in big games because he could defend and knew his defensive responsibilities. Valencia can also play at Left Back and is the preferred choice over Nani. Perhaps Flicker knows what he's capable of in an attacking sense but is just attempting to make him a more rounded player. Didn't Barca players under Guardiola all train each others positions?

 

When has he started in attacking positions? He didn't look good at Blackpool last year, he cost us the game v Wednesday too.

Most of the people i've spoken to have said different.
If you want to take the goal apart at Sheffield you would look at the centre backs too. especially the guy at the front post.
