The trouble is , I have , I was on strike for one year and worked in the industry for 23 years i have more than a clue
Marlon Marlon Marlon Couple with children in the 84 strike got supplimentry benefit They also could claim food vouchers from the local authority e.g. Barnsley Council And please do not put things on here implying that I am a Thatcher supporter..........you need to read my posts again..........but carefully this time And Mr Marlon............which pit did you work at during the strike ???
He is at it again, as you say he is a wind up merchant. Said it before he posts contentious issues and then gets everyone fighting one another.
Yes i know I've seen some of your posts in other threads saying the exact opposite of what you put on here .that's why I'd rather debate with nudge at least he's fairly consistent even though he s wrong most times
................Tw@t...........!!! Thats not to anyone in particular.............I just thought I'd say it.................its easier than THINKING int it
Nudger Nudger Nudger Miners got nothing during strike "fact" the food vouchers were complimentary of Barnsley council ad could be withdrawn without notice and was not a benefit and wasn't open to all miners £5per child. Believe me Nudger I always read your posts very carefully . And show me where I called you a thatcherite in any of my posts if theres one thing I know, I know your not a thatcherite you must not ave read my posts very carefully
Just spoken to a guy who had kids in the strike just to double check I remember the miners with kids got a bit of something............suplimentry benefit..........the guy has confirmed this As for accusing me of being a Thatherite...................Mr Marlon...........are these not your words............. ..............."The trade unions needed t do something to help their members wages were terrible back then its interesting that you take the bosses argument that we were striking just for the hell of it when in fact most ties the bosses were provoking these reactions which as a worker at that time you shoud know. I'd bet a pound to a penny you didn't have those views then or when you were an N U M official. Methinks your using the rewritten history drivel their spewing to make thatchers premiere ship look immaculate". And Mr Marlon Im still waiting to hear what pit you worked at ???
Hey guys, calm down. And I say that from the perspective of just having seen a motorcyclist die outside my work today. My Dad was a miner - from leaving school at 14 - and eventually became shot firer at Wooley. He died a few months ago aged 84. He lived through the strikes of the 70's but decided that being a father was more important than being a miner, and he left the pit before the strikes under Thatcher. He always said it was the best thing he ever did. My uncle, who I adored, and lived in the same street, had to break the strike and go back to work. His colleagues made his life such a misery that he left the area and moved to the coast, where he still lives. I am not defending Thatcher certainly (I was an Economics teacher and was aware of the misery her economic poliicies were causing), but let's not pretend that everyone wanted to work down the pit, because, as Young Nudger said, given a choice many miners would have left, as did my Dad. You can call me anything you like, but I still consider myself a Barnsley supporter. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to escape working down the pit. And if you say i'm a soft barsteward, I grew up on Athersley and could stand up to anyone. Sorry for the rant, but having just witnessed someone dying, I am taking out on you lot.
