    Word up.

Nudger meanwhile seems to be vying for the title of 'who suffered most' and 'who made the most of themselves'

He is a true child of Thatcher.

    Another crap point from Nudge.

My Dad was on strike when he worked at British Steel and didn't recieve a penny. That's because someone on striker is stilll employed and wouldn't actually qualify for any benefits.

My dad got nowt and I got nowt. As an apprentice we weren't officially on strike but laid off as there was no supervision. We got dole for about a month or so then they stopped that as we were the only area getting it so they stopped it for everybody. Still had to go to tech too 1 day a week and fund the travel out of my own pocket. Yes it was a dead easy time. Luckily my dad was careful with money (the tight old git ;)) and he had savings in his drawer at home (didn't trust banks....he weren't daft) so we somehow survived. It was just that his life savings disappeared to keep our heads above water:mad: Yeah it was a peace of p!ss !

All this just to try and preserve your community and future generations jobs

I was at school when she came into power and by 83 when I left the only job available was down the pit. She'd already knocked the stuffing and any ambition out of most before their working lives had even begun.

My opinion of her it that she was an evil, murdering, greedy, spiteful bitch. She had a condescending voice just to try and put people down. She agreed with political regimes around the world, that today get castigated ,just so she and her cronies could make even more money. I believe that at some point in the future she (and her family) will be found to have used her position to make money (son already implicated). She tried to kill football as it was the working mans pleasure, and when things went wrong tried to cover it up.

I could go on and on......

No thats not it at all.

I'm just telling a story of what happened to me because of Maggie

However, I do think its daft when some on here tell you that it was so so terrible.........and then say they were at school at the time

I was at school at the time. It was terrible.

Thankfully my Dad was (is) one of those stoic types who tried to shelter his family from the full effects of what was going off. He could only do so much. In a lot of ways single blokes could have been said to have had an easier time rather than the blokes trying to hold families together.

Everyone will have a story to tell, nobody has the monopoly on suffering during that time. Your experience is not that of mine, but I wouldn't wish either on anybody.

What has happened to you is because of you. Not because of her. She would be the first one to tell you this. Well not now cos the ****er is dead...

Nudger you really are an obnoxious pillock. Do you not realise just what parents were going through to feed you clothe you and try and keep you as kids protected from this woman's policies. Then as you left school , to be unable to get a proper job. 15 and 16 year olds were put in Yts schemes, which were glorified licensed crap jobs. These kids were asked to do jobs that were not fit for purpose and mostly what no normal person would entertain. Thus ended life as we knew it. Our communities became non existent and still are, and the old snap tins were chucked in the bin. Redundancy money was an saw mates who in a few years were unrecognisable, broken.
She sold off our National Industries to financial institutions including council houses . She closed perfectly good pits that were viable. She asked those pits to settle their mortgage in one year, and this put them in the Red. She then paid for all the debt, by using North Sea oil and gas. We are now all paying the price, and this woman has to take the blame.
Your debate on this issue is like many more of your debates, they are not constructive, they are destructive.

There's a book title in there somewhere

Title of book - why kids at school knew more about the miners strike, experienced more and suffered more in the miners strike than the guys that were actually on strike

This seems to be the general consensus......................LOL !!!

Or is there a bit of envy creeping in here. The biggest thing to happen in Barnsley ever..........and they didn't fully experience it because they were at school at the time

The same as I didnt fully experience it during the 72 and 74 strikes..........because I was at school at the time

FFS !!!...............some on here need to stand back and think about whats been said on here before they jump on the lets bash Nudger bandwagon.......BBBBBBBBBBaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

No actually it looks like you think it was your strike, your experience of it is the only valid one.

Your use of the word 'envy' is quite telling - you felt cheated out of the 70's strikes and so guard jealously your memories of the 84 strike for fear of someone else having a 'better' (ie harder) time of it than you.

Your experience of it isn't the only experience of it you know.
