Hope so but this would just lead to an American system of no relegation which is prob what those 20 clubs want.

I think we will see a prem league 2 in the next 5 years, with 20 teams in it.

Maybe but I think the next few years could be interesting as there are a few shall we say 'household' names teetering on the brink...

I know it won't happen but it would be bloody funny if they did and timed it so that as many clubs like (and including)Bolton and other such ones that wanted to scrap relegation were in the championship

I live in hope more than expectation that the football league clubs get tough with the PL to stop this madness. It may sound trivial to some but refusing relegated clubs entry into the championship is the best thing to do IMO.

Surely that would just make the Premier league a closed shop with the current 20 teams though. I can't help thinking it would actually be worse than the payouts they currently get.

Hopefully. Then lobby FIFA that the real England side shoudl be drawn from Football League ranks...

In other news, it also shows teh cost of relegation from this level - around £4 million. Books balanced then and more cuts to follow.

It looks like football has we have traditionally known it is gone forever. If we carry on like we are allowing everyone the dream of playing in the top flight - remember Swansea, Cardiff, Hull and Brighton finished in 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd in the fourth tier of English football when we were in the Premier League - then the big clubs will continue to get bigger and give smaller scraps to the rest..

The alternative would lead to a major rift in English football, and completely remove the dream that those four sides are currently living. IMHO that would lead to the lingering death of English football..

Either way, the sport we love is being ruined by greed from the players, clubs, administrators and others at the highest levels.

The only way to get our game back would be to completely scrap parachute payments and distribute the money evenly between all the clubs in each division. If clubs gamble their future on greed (like Portsmouth) they deserve to go. The Premier League would probably be a much better tournament if Wigan had the same budget as Manchester City for players.

However, with potentially 12 teams in the second (and lower) tiers of English football receiving parachute payments at any time it is unlikely that they would ever vote to scrap them.

There are too many 'undesirable clubs' in the premier league for it consider closing shop just yet. They will want to dispense of them first and somehow smuggle Rangers and Celtic into the fold.

The way things are going its almost be a closed shop already but by refusing them admission at least we level up the playing field.
