Why doesn't the BBS do this? When I go onto other forums, I enjoy finding the matchday thread and finding the point in which something important in the game happened and seeing peoples reactions and replies. In the BBS we just have numerous threads saying "GET IN!" or "FFS" or something to this effect... Is it idleness? or shall I start creating Matchday threads on the day before the match.. and try to get people posting in this thread as opposed to about 10 different threads appearing when we score a goal?
We did. I was one such basterd. Tomi summed it up quite well at the time, IIRC.
I think its far better to have 50/60 threads about things relating to the same game, its one of the things that reminds people just why the rest of the country think people from Barnsley are fecking idiots.
It won't work. You can't control what threads are being posted, people will still start new threads regardless. It seems to work on here too imo. This site 'flows' like no other forum.
I'm always at the match anyway on account of me being a reight fan so I don't read or post in such threads.
It works on every other forum but not this one? Just ask everyone to post in the match thread and delete the other match related threads, people will soon get used to it.
It's good to have different threads about different topics otherwise it's just a big mess of different people's thoughts with no structure. It gets a bit silly when there's 4 threads about the same thing because people can't be bothered to check if there's already a thread about it, even if it's still on the first page. What's more ridiculous though is when there's loads of people creating new threads with the score updates or exclamations of delight/depression that don't create any discussion. They should and could quite easily be kept in the same thread. That thread could just be for the score, injuries, substitutions, goal updates from other games etc. and other miscellaneous comments. Afterwards, post game, people can create their own thread about a particular player's performance or whatever providing someone hasn't done the same earlier. I'm pretty sure this forum has the lowest replies:threads ratio of any on the internet between 2:30pm and 7pm on a Saturday. But similarly I don't want to track through pages and pages of comments in a single match day thread, in an attempt to follow one of the discussions going on, especially when people with threaded view just use the reply button with quoting who they're talking to.
Why would you need to do that? Have a sticky matchday thread for those of you that want one and the rest of us can carry on as we always have below it. Everyone's happy, right?
Like I said. Basterds the lot of em. But seriously, I couldn't give a ****. I just think the amount of new threads is the reason this board grinds to a halt on away days..
It only works for you. As stated elsewhere it does mean you get a very long thread which is great if you are reading it after the event but if it's a live thread it means loads of scrolling and finding where things are in the thread every time someone contributes.
Good point. And if I'm honest, I don't really post on matchdays when I'm not at the game. I'm on twitter. Ideal platform for it.
Just the other day I had to go home sick after finding out that Madmark was using threaded view while hemsworth-tyke was using linear view in a discussion about whether or not bobby hassell shot bambi's mum
Its been tried and doesn't work we end up with about 8 match day threads. Of which supertyke starts crying his eyes out if they get merged. Then everyone just starts posting new threads regardless. I must admit I have enjoyed reading the other forums match day threads at the points when we have scored or won and they have been quite funny. It just doesn't not work on this forum and I'm sure it would have taken a very lot of moderating on those other forums to get them as organised as they are.
