    He is a players player for his club but sadly like many good English players he fails to continue this onto international level.

    Well ESL i think started the thread but there many in that thread that seemed to agree with ESL. Thankfully the PFA can see a talent.

    Carrick, 31, who joined United from Tottenham in 2006, has been a key figure for the Premier League leaders this season, making 41 appearances.
    PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said: "He is a players' player. He doesn't make big headlines but he is highly regarded by his fellow professionals."

    Whitey, 31 this year, who has watched Carrick for years, feels he's never lived up to his early promise, and certainly wouldn't get anywhere near the England setup.

    He also feels that he couldn't give a **** how much of a "player's player" he is at Manchester United, as it's irrelevant.

    Whitey finishes by suggesting that Bobby Hassell is a better midfielder.

    Technically very tidy but more often than not he has failed to impose himself on a game. He has had a decent season though but to see him on there suggests a lack of competition this year. Been a poor season in PL. How many nominated?

    Massively underrated. Man Utd had hardly won anything for a good couple of years when they signed Carrick. Makes them tick and sets the tempo.

    It'll be Gareth Bale or Luis Suarez I would have thought. Carrick is a tidy enough footballer, but there's got to be a certain amount of players on the short list and he's only really there to make up the numbers. Surprised Leighton Baines didn't make it that far though.

    Has he ever been nominated before? If not, I would suggest it is because he is due. A solid but unspectacular player, a handbrake if you will.
