Not surprised at £54 per ticket at the Holiday Inn and well over £4 a pint at the bar. I wouldn't take a rabbit to eat there. The last person I know who organised a do there ended up storming into the kitchen with a tray full of sandwiches with blue mould on them and throwing them at the chef. Last time I went it was only because I had won a meal for two voucher in a raffle. The meal was rubbish, as usual. I was told not to expect too much as it was free anyway. Nuff said.
For once I actually feel for the players... the effort they've shown and we can't muster a few people. What a shame
Why can't we hold the do at Oakwell. I've been there for an Xmas do and it was ok and I'm pretty sure they could cope with a small numbers POTY do.
The same happend with the 125th anniversary legends night at the Metrodome And that was something like £45+ vat per person as well. Think they need to look at making these events more open to the wider public and not just to the sponsors as two big events have been cancelled in the last 7 - 8 months due to lack of numbers/interest. Hold the do at Oakwell, charge £15 - £20 flat fee (vat included in the price) per person and make it more appealing to the common man to attend. I've always thought of going to these events but see the price and think stuff that. Wonder if announcing the awards at the Hull game before the do might have had something to do with the lack of numbers?
Re: The same happend with the 125th anniversary legends night at the Metrodome To be honest these sorts of things have always been a bit of a p*ss up for the sponsors, unfortunately our sponsors are generally much smaller companies than they used to be. The club need to recognise this and promote it towards fans as opposed to businesses, have it after the season is finished so the players can have a few shandies and mingle with the fans. Still needs to be priced at something of a premium to keep the nobs (like me) out.
I took a leaf out of the Club's book on this. Concentrating on the league. All other expenses postponed until next season
Big BBQ on the pitch after they've beemed the Huddersfield game on a large screen. Bring your own booze. All on long street party esque tables. £15 a head. Only available to season ticket holders. Reight party. No press so players can let their hair down. Players and fans mixing a like. You know it makes sense.
I totally agree. I had my wedding do in the Legends (afternoon and evening) and it was fine. Almost 200 there in the evening but it was a different layout in those days (2000). Can't believe no-one has thought of that before, would be a great night.
Re: The same happend with the 125th anniversary legends night at the Metrodome I booked for that too and was disappointed to hear it was called off. As you say, far too expensive. This business of stating the price as £xx + VAT - they should STOP doing it. It puts people off by giving the impression it's a private do for corporate people etc. It also gives the impression that they are trying to "fool" people into thinking the price is lower than it actually is. Just quote the actual price, the corporate people will be able to work out the VAT themselves. And anyway, they shouldn't be reclaiming VAT on events like that as it is not a genuine business expense. That's two events this season, which could have been good nights out, cancelled (in my opinion) because of over charging. I wonder whether there's a moral in that story.............
POTY do has never been the same since john dennis left the helm.I went to quite a few under johns stewardship and they were reight neets. Then they stopped it being a gentlemans evening and let women in and it has never been the same since.
