My mind is swimming with ifs and buts and hows and whys. I keep looking at the league table and playing scenarios out in my head. I'm so proud of what Barnsley and Flitcroft have achieved this year and I'd be gutted for them if it all came to nought on the last day but for me that final 90 minutes can't come soon enough.
I know exactly what you mean -I have seen us relegated 3 times and its always sickening but if we go down this time it would be by far the worst - I have never seen a season like this I really think that if we stay up Flicker can take us places and for sure we wouldnt be in this position again next season - but if we go down the team will be broken up and flicker may well go and we will have lost the chance. As pointed out elsewhere the sort of buzz yesterday was reminiscent of the Wilson ( and I would say Clarke and Hunter) eras I think this week will be more stressful than the week leading up to the playoff final and the game at Hiddersfield is actually more important than the game at the Millenium stadium was
Agree completely. I just want it over now - the suspense is killing me. I was really up for yesterday and was strangely confident from the start, but I will be a bag of nerves next week. The scenario that keeps playing in my mind is that Huddersfield only need a draw and will park the bus, so to speak - we won't be able to break through, Posh get a draw at Palace, and we go down on 55 points on goal difference. God, hope I am wrong.
A really big game is the mid week one, Millwall vs Palace. If Palace win that they're in the Playoffs but any other result will see them needing a result on the final day against Peterborough. If that's the case they I reckon Peterborough will lose, otherwise I reckon they'll get something from the game meaning we'd have to win.
Yeah but I keep looking at that midweek game and thinking that if Palace were to win 3-0, say, then a draw would still be enough for us if Millwall lose on the last day, regardless of what Posh do. It's driving me mad.
Re: Consumption of vast amounts of wine Usually I'd agree - it's a sound approach and it's served me well in the past. Unfortunately I'm slap-bang in the middle of a month off the booze (I do that once or twice a year to prove to myself that I'm not an alcoholic). It's not helping.
Re: Consumption of vast amounts of wine Fear not. If we play like yesterday we are, as Flicker says, a match for anyone in this league and more than a match for Huddersfield. We will win and stay up. It's them who need other results to go their way, not us. Let them worry for a week. Keep the faith. UTR
Re: Empty that wine cellar It's tempting I'll admit but I'm keeping my powder dry for the Sancerre Wine Festival in the middle of May. Staying over at Chavignol for the weekend. Really looking forward to it - it's a beautiful part of the world. And the wine's not bad, either.
Re: My hero! i think any result on tuesday goes for us, in one way or another. millwall win - palace will be all guns blazing against peterbrough. millwall draw or lose - puts them right back in it on last day, and one more team in the fight with us in a way, i'm glad that we now go to huddersfield with a 'must win' game plan
Re: Consumption of vast amounts of wine And you chose that month to tie in exactly with the end of the football season? Is this your first season as a Barnsley fan!?
All the play-off teams will need to keep winning. They all want the second-leg of the semi to be at home. They want to be in 3rd or 4th position just for that advantage. Points are as important in the play-off places as they are in the league.
We are better than Huddersfield. If we can turn up and play our game like we did yesterday we WILL win. If we don't then we have to start thinking about scraping a draw and what others are doing but can you imagine Flicker's team talk at ten to three Saturday? We have momentum, belief, passion in our favour and more of each than Huddersfield.
