Really can't understand the attitude towards Robins from many on here. I'd take him over the bell end who replaced him every day of the week.
He just grates on me. I remember in January when he said he had "sky blue blood running through his veins" then next week he was off to Huddersfield.
Robins did an ok job with not much money, Hill did a poor job with no money, Flitcroft has done a fantastic job with no money. I think Robin's would have kept us in the Championship.
I think that with the cuts that have taken place at our club (the reason Robins left) I don't think he would have kept us up. We played rubbish at times under Robins with arguably better/bigger name players than we have now. O'Connor, (a younger) Harewood, Mellis, (an in-form/young) Hammill, Anderson, Shackell, Dickinson, Shotton, Trippier, Butterfield. Imagine if Flicker had that lot to pick from now.
O'Connor was never any good more interested in white powder than football. Mellis wasn't the player he's been this season Was never a fan of Dickinson- I know he divides opinion and I respected that he was very committed to the cause and seemed to have passion but he was very hot headed IMO Butterfield- was a fringe player that only got a look in around as much as Digby did a while back. Only under Hill did he come into his own.
Interesting bringing up Anderson, looked him up on wikipedia and its not good news http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anderson_Silva_de_França Real pity he's not played much if at all since he was 28, does anyone remember specifically why he left? It escapes me now. I thought on his day he was a class player. Same for Colace- don't know if anyone's on twitter but I cringe at him constantly trying to find a way back into English football. Never the same after that player of the year (or was it player's player?) award.
I thought O'Connor was good and if he'd had Flicker's guidance he could have been better. Agree re Mellis. Dickinson was hot headed, a little like Dawson now but IMO we've not had a better LB since.
He absolutely has not been BETTER IMO. They go about the same job in quite a different way though. Don't get me wrong, I think Golbourne has been excellent but I think I prefered Dickinson's style. He was more defensive and I liked the aggression. He could also cross the ball way better. Could be an interesting debate though, be interesting to see what others think - not that it's relevant right now lol.
I liked Robins, thought he was down to earth n that. Thing is, he let the players get away with murder. No discipline at all in the squad. Flitcroft said the other week he was shocked when him n Hill took over because their 'breakfast club' was Mcdonalds or summat. Not bad for professional athletes. Plus he loaned really expensive players and paid out all his transfer budget on them (eg McShane, Trippier etc), then left for that exact reason. To sum it up really, that was his main downfall - too short-term, instead of permanently signing and developing players over time, and taking advantage of our Academy. Once his ace card, Hammill, left he was stumped, and the job became too much for him. I personally don't have a grudge against t'owd Mark he's a decent fella. Good luck to him for the future, he just needs to sort out his long term thinking.
