Apologies if I've missed it but ....has anything come out of BFC about Mellis' fitness? He seemed to limp off when substituted last Saturday and Flicker said afterwards they'd assess him on Sunday. Anyone heard any news? He'd be a big miss if he's not fit. One of our most creative players.....
Disastrous if he's not fit. Not heard anything though, we're bound to find out at Flicker's Press Conference (usually Thursday)
He thrived in free role at top of a triangle - like Butterfield did. We should stick with 352 and overrun Huddersfield in the middle. Dawson not as creative but offers more support defensively if needed. Only Cywka is other option for Mellis role
I like Dawson, but the two are different class in my opinion. Mellis was brilliant on Saturday, best game in a reds shirt.
Mellis will play in premier league as long as he doesn't go off the rails or slack off, Dawson has reached his highest level.
Our best player IMO in terms of ability. He can unlock things. Hope he is fit. Supported by tutu and perks we have an excellent midfield 3.
I think it was easy for mellis to play the way he did with the support behind him! But think most of it was down the the way kelvin played! They seem to have a understanding
9 assists & 6 goals from 35 appearances, often playing wide right. Only played his proper position a dozen or so games. Reight laiker. And getting better.
What's his proper position? If it's central midfield in a 4-4-2 then I'd have to disagree because in my opinion that's when he's looked at his worst.
Agree - behind the front one or two. Played behind Davies early season and behind the two when playing 352. Looked quality.
He can't play central midfield in a 442. He's an attacking midfielder and I believe he was played at the top of the diamond in nearly every reserve game for chelsea
We go down, he'd be the hardest player to replace. I love a grafter, and we've got plenty. But a talent like Mellis makes them look better, and vice versa. Just as Butterfield worked well with Perkins/Drinkwater behind him. When a talent like that adds graft to his game, it's not long that they remain at Oakwell. Redders being the exception.
