Well there's two concerns really.......but anyway

....................if we lose £6 million due to the cost of relegation then some of the present squad will move on
I wouldn't like to see players such as Perkins, Wiseman, O'Grady, Dawson etc etc etc.....be forced out of the club
Because if we can keep these lads together then which ever league we are in next season I think we will do well

The other concern relates to the ownership of the club..........but then thats always a concern
Thing is - I hope that potential owners are not put off if we get relegated

O'Grady is our player to lose.
If you went now and again you would know this.

Personally I think that will be a concern regardless of whether we stay up or not. Hate to say it, but I reckon Cranie will be the first out of the door, even if we stay up. By the clubs own admission he's on a lot of money, and I think im right in saying, he's out of contract in the summer. I also think clubs will come sniffing for the likes of Dawson, Perkins and Mellis.

If we go down, I feel we may be able to keep hold of our defenders (Cranie the exception) and our strikers, who don't have age on their side. I reckon we'll be looking to rebuild the midfield, which is a shame because at times this season, we've looked sublime in the middle of the park. Then again, at times, we've also looked very short there too.

I'm sure it's not that easy.

It will all boil down to the transfer fee. And despite the money from Stones and the cup run, I suspect any fee pushing too much further than £250k will mean we can't afford him.

We keep hearing how we are already paying League One wages so if we go down we should be Ok in League One? Or maybe that was just more ******** and the wage bill is a lot higher than we are actually admitting.

I also fail to see how we will lose £6m. We'd lose about £2m TV money and gate receipts of £1m and that is a very generous estimate.

I reckon O'Grady will join us in the summer regardless of division. This is the highest level he's played at and for the longest period, most of his career in the lower divisions, so I reckon he'd take the drop if he likes it at the club and help us get back.
I would fancy our chances of "doing a Donny" if we go down as long as we keep Flitcroft and we keep the bulk of the squad. Though I think Steele would leave if we went down, and clubs would be sniffing around Perkins.

Agreed, the squad and management team we have now, is more than capable to challenge in this league, it would be a disaster if we were relegated and lost the heart of the squad as a consequence.

Yes and part with a million quid. Do you think his form has gone un-noticed at the 'big' Championship clubs? And Wednesday are just going to give him to Barnsley for a nominal fee because they couldn't get any football out of him?

I doubt O'Grady will interest any of the big clubs. He has hardly broken any scoring records, and he lacks the finesse that big clubs demand. He's a strong, hard working forward that chips in with a reasonable number of goals. A bottom half of the championship striker, and I don't see why he would choose a similar team over Barnsley.

Really? I think there are are few who who dispute that. He's played 16, 4 goals and 5 assists, 2/3 MOTMs. He's not an out and out goalscorer, far from it. If we are on the attack, it's unlikely he going to ghost in for a tap in, probably because he was involved creating the opportunity.

He's on a golden run of form, in one way it's luck for us that it's the end of the season as a bigger club might just want to look at him for another few games before getting the cheque book out.

    Agree completely with that.

Drinkwater is a prime example. He was solid, doing a good job, then Leicester decided to just shell out £1m to get him. Managers of teams we've played will have seen how strong he's been and the value he could add as a target man. 1 goal in every 3 starts is pretty decent too.

And at the end of the day, the desire of the player won't have as much sway as what Wednesday want fee wise. And let's not be naïve either on salary, very few players will pass up the opportunity to earn considerably more at another club, however much they may enjoy playing here.

There won't be as much interest in O'Grady as there was Drinkwater. He was younger and came through the Man U academy. You don't come through there if you don't have potential. Big clubs will see that Wednesday didn't rate him and think that he's just in a purple patch.
