I'd have to say Ricardo Vaz Te - even if the game isn't going our way he can create something out of nothing.

Not sure if any of the names mentioned even at their peak ever did that on a regular basis.

Tricky one 3 stand out candidates for me Ward , Redfern and Glavin for reasons given by others but if I have to pick just one it has to be Glavin in his prime he could win games single handed and I'd just love to see him in his prime again

    Glavin.....absolutely no doubt about it.

Scored goals and made goals........finest player in my time as a REDS fan.

Whitey.....his lack of pace and chance of a red card would worry me in such a game.

His commitment was never in doubt......great servant to BFC.......an it's local public houses.

Damn I nearly put 35 - but seriously Glavin at his peak was early 80s so unluckily for you you missed him - best player I have ever seen in a Barnsley shirt - and that includes the premiership team only Redfern comes close

    Ashley Ward.

Best striker I've seen play for us. At his best he was unplayable. He played 17 games for us at this level and scored 12 goals, that's as good as it gets.

But that means leaving out Glavin, Hignett and Redfearn which I'm not happy about.

Oh come on I know he had a cult following, but to choose him out of all players in the clubs history? You can't be serious- he doesn't even fit into our current system.

As for my shout I'd have said Higgers or Redders but our midfield is strong enough so either Ward or Dyer up top to use the service the players in midfield and hard working strikers we have can provide.

Ashley Ward was outstanding for REDS......no doubt about it.

Personally I think David Hirst was a better striker, but we really did not see enough of him in a REDS shirt.

Zemaj recommendation is a good one........Devaney was a 100% player and could beat a man and put a decent cross in.

Not a legend in the Glavin, Redfearn, Hignett status.....but nonetheless he'd be a good player in a game like this.

I was not debating the mans playing quality on his day, I was debating whether he'd fit in our current system! There's also not a man in our midfield I'd take out for him either I'm afraid, as was said earlier in the thread if you're talking crosses I'd like to see Barnard in there, there's someone I could see fitting in our system.

    Barnard deffo.

I actually think Devaney and O'Brien are very similar players.......and I'd say Devaney edges it on "end product"?

Stones. Just for the RWB role. I'm happy with the rest of the team.

Was wondering how long it would be before somebody said Stones. Would also be my choice. Sadly, i'm nowhere near old enough to have seen the likes of Glavin (no offence meant to those that are) and can only just remember Redders, having been a nipper.

Ashley Ward is a very decent shout though, to all that said him!
