Don saying contract negotiations should be done in 5 minutes.

And Flicker suggesting it's not going to be anything like that easy.

It's certainly not the "yes, I want the job" we heard last week. Interesting to hear that he thought players should have been offered contracts 5 or 6 weeks ago and that now it may be too late.

I hope the board can match Flitcroft's ambition. Unbelievable job he's done these last 4 months.

It's a clear message, one he has likely been bottling up for weeks. He wants to keep and develop his team. Probably above any personal terms. The ball is definitely in Patrick's court, Flicker will get offered other jobs. The board needs to act fast.

It all stems from the board selling Stones in January, which clearly pissed him off listening to interviews. Tonight should be about celebration but I am alarmed by his interview. I agree with him totally in what he says but I just hope the board are prepared to listen to him. They should have offered him a new contract, on 3 years, about 4 weeks ago. They didn't. Just like they sell off our best players every January.

I hope it works out. Flicker, you're a legend.

    You Reds.

We're at a crossroads and we didn't need to be. If the board manage to **** this one up, well I don't know but I'll have to consider things long and hard over the summer. We had stagnated until Flicker united the club so come on Don and Pat get a grip and sort this out.

One interview sounds tinpot, happy to be a second tier struggler.

The other sounds ambitious, driven, and wants to push the limits.

I'll let you work out which is which.

    Goodnight. LOVE you all.

    Depends though

First I'm hearing that Flitcroft will want all sorts of assurances from the board as to backing. Then I'm hearing that they should have offered him a contract weeks ago. But how could they have made all these assurances when they didn't know which division they'd be playing in? It made complete sense to wait until the end of the season.

The club will (I hope) remain cautious regarding spending going into the new season. Hopefully more clubs will begin to follow the trend and the playing field will start to even out. There have been some very expensive failures around the league this season.

What that tells me is that some of the players have already been offered deals elsewhere. I'm thinking O'Grady, Steele and Mellis are at risk.

Flicker even agreed that they would only sit down and discuss the future at the end of the season.

Mellis already under contract for another year so I think we are ok there

Steele and O Grady both need signing up ASAP - I am fairly sure both want to play for flicker next season.

I think he will defo sign unless the board completely **** it up. They had the nous to appointment him initially when they could have gone after a third choice, they listened to the fans.

Flicker is holding all the cards, he can now use these cards to get the tools he wants, I'm not talking about big bucks for him, but the extra stuff we fans don't see and maybe appreciate. The Hotel days, spa days, rejuvenating sessions, top quality training days out, rehab sessions, team coach etc.

It was pretty obvious job he was and going to do after half a dozen games, and board maybe should have offered him longer then, but it was very early and we didn't want anything to take our eyes off the focus of staying, Flicker as good as said this in several interviews.

Interesting if you listen he says it might be too late for several players, but them quickly says we would just have to explore different avenues and rebuild.

This guy wants it so bad, but is in a great bartering position. The board cannot afford to blow it and they know this.

It will all be resolved very very quickly in my opinion

    Re: Depends though

'David we want you to stay. We've been proactive instead of reactive for once and looked at the figures and if you do your bit and keep the team up then we will be able to offer you an increased budget of x amount due to the over £5m of unbudgeted for income this season. Our aim would be to finish in the top half of the table. We hope this matches your ambitions. If we are to go down then we will lose x amount of money, most of which will be offset against the £5m extra that we have talked about however there will still be a shortfall of x which will need to be lost from the playing budget. I hope you understand our reasoning for this'.

Assurances can be made even if you don't know what league you're going to be in if you're proactive about the situation and plan two budgets. I would be absolutely amazed if the new financial year had started without the club outlining budgets for the year ahead.

To keep unity at a crucial time, it wasn't due to him agreeing clearly!

    True

A lot of "if we stay up" and "if we retain such sponsorship" mutterings do tend to undermine assurances though and you're only talking budgets there. Relegation would also affect which of his playing staff want out, the size of the supporting staff, club expectations and so on. He said in the dressing room that a lot of jobs had been saved by staying up. A pile of unknowns that are now that much clearer now the job has been done.

With a positive but realistic budget for the coming season, I can't see why he would walk away. He has the core of a working team already installed.
