I spit my thumb at them and fart in their general direction . Thank the chuffin Lordy lordy they turned down the job. We were informed that the club had offered Butcher the best terms ever offered to a Barnsley manager candidate. It therefore should follow that our Man Flicker be offered at least the same terms....and make it a five year deal too - give him and his mngt team time to rebuild the whole club. We have a diamond. In over 50 years of watching footy I have never ever witnessed scenes such as those we saw yesterday. It was a privilege to be there . In all my time watching our club I don't think I've ever felt as proud of a set of players and a manager/management team.....and that includes the team that took us to the premier league. Oh my god - I'm still tingling.
Awesome royal my boy. Awesome. I'm sure PC will do everything he can to get flicker signed up. I just hope we can meet his ambitions. PL manager within 3 years. No doubt in my mind
Love it! Thanks Terry. Thanks Sean. Keith, with his downbeat pessimistic approach, did something to us. he took away our chance to dream. As a fan we deserve that right. it keeps us going. Our man has given us the chance to dream again. In few kin spades. He is totally inspirational. That post match dressing room speech, where he ends it by saying "you've saved people's jobs" .....absolutely puts it all into perspective. WHAT A MAN.
In an alternate universe, Butcher became manager, we were relegated with 37 points weeks ago. Don came on the radio to announce we had parted company with Butcher and that all the playing staff out of contract in the Summer had been released, any remaining players would be transfer listed. Don insisted that these players would not be sold on the cheap, however most transfers were of such a nominal value that they were paid in cash - with coins, mainly silver.
I have to ask this question...and I want you to be honest..... What were your thoughts back in the depths of winter after Keeeef got the boot....Who wanted Flicker as boss? Remember, honesty required...
I'll happily admit I didn't want Flitcroft in charge, tactically I didn't believe he would be any different to Keith Hill.
I wasn't against him...I thought although the points total was pretty damning...Hill had nearly got things right..in a so near yet so far situation and in the absence of any good candidates we might as well give him a go.
i wanted Terry Butcher then when he said no i didn't know who would do a job within our means that was untill i saw the players race over to flicker after we'd scored against leeds then at that point i KNEW.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wanted Flicker after the Peterborough game. My son was mascot, and I met Flicker and the players in the dressing room (had met Flicker before, too), and his sincerity and passion won me over even then.
I was against Flicker initially but came around after Butcher turned us down. Reasons being, he was touted as the better of the pair and the players respected him and wanted him as manager. After the Leeds game I definitely wanted him in.
Fantastic day, tremendous achievement by the Team considering where we were at Christmas but nothing will compare to the day we went up to the Prem......now if Flicker takes us back there....!!!
Well I will admit I most certainly didn't want Flitcroft in. He was a part of the management team that got us in the relegation zone playing "tippy tappy" football with little penetration of the attacking third of the field in the first place. He was the last person on earth I wanted in. After he had been in charge for a few games I had a dilemma. Were we seeing a couple of games improvement you sometimes get when a new manager takes over or was he turning thing around for us? In the end I felt that he had done so well that we had to give him till the end of the season. He has proven to me one thing. That is that I only get things right 99.9% of the time. My doubts about Flitcroft at the time were justified. He and the rest of the management team and the players have since proved that I was wrong about him. This achievement can never be taken away from him, nor should anyone try. If we had been relegated by a small margin then I would still want to keep him at the club. The big challenge for him now will be the expectation of the fans now he is starting on zero points. Will the board back him up with the players he wants to sign? If he doesn't get the full backing of the board and chooses he leave to join a club I would wish him well. I hope Cryne gives him the backing he deserves to move this club forward.
