Perkins,Wiseman,Dawson,Etuhu etc. You're not lower league washed up players, you are all very good Championship players.Take a bow lads. And to some supporters it proves not to judge too soon. Its not where the player comes from its about seeing potential and developing it.
Bit unfair on Etuhu apart from a brief loan spell at Rochdale whilst at Man City don't think he's played below Championship
Folks give a first impression, match by match assessment and how they see players panning out in the future, its what this board is about. I think that the slagging of players from lower leagues was more to do with disappointment from some that they weren`t getting any Premiership experienced players and to some extent Championship experienced players and were frustrated by it. The realisation the club were changing tack was a blow for most even if you understood the reasoning behind it. But your right more time should be given for the players to settle and patience is needed, but sometimes there needs to be a cut off point for some players, blinkers away an all that.
I mentioned Etuhu because of the comments made at the time because he was deemed as a trouble maker and no one would touch him.
To still be in this league with a squad/team half built on unproven championship players is in some respects a credit to Keith Hill for un earthing some of these gems. Keith hill got many things wrong but he gave David flitcroft some very useful tools in his quest to keep us up. Thus added with a few signings and who knows what may happen. I know 1 thing, my summer will be much better now I know where we'll be plying our trade
Apart from maybe Perkins, it took the others a LONG time to adjust...particularly Etuhu and he was supposed to have proven quality. All worked out well in the end, and I think it all came down to confidence - For the last few months I've felt much better seeing Etuhu's name in the starting eleven, a few months before he seemed like a waste of space. Perkins and Dawson have always had the fans backing because they work so hard, but it's remarkable how Wiseman has gone from being the number one scapegoat, was an inch away from leaving the club and has turned into one of our most solid performers. Cranie is probably the more complete centre half but still makes mistakes (as all footballer's do) but Wiseman has a lot more to his game with his forward runs and ability to whip a decent ball in from the wings. I actually now wish we had two Scott Wiseman's, one to play at RWB and the other at CB.
Keith said Daws signing was on the advice of Flicker and it makes you wonder if he put forward any other players we followed up with. Keith`s best and was he the first, Perkins has been a pleasure to watch the guy is just Duracell Man. O`Grady, who Keith were after a while has suprised me, not only a good hold up man (most of the time) he is also a clinical finisher. Added value, Flicker, Mellon et al have raised the stock in these players by the team being as one battling.
Totally agree about O'Grady he has been absolutely fantastic but I remember murmerings on this board before we even signed him that If he wasn't good enough for Wednesday etc and another Rochdale misfit. If I was in charge I would make sure he was my first signing.
Must admit I would prefer if we didn`t fetch in players from rivals, but know down the years ex Weds and Leeds players have done a great job at our club. You seem to take player criticism on here to heart when maybe it should be took with a pinch of salt mate. Still your only reminding folk like myself, at times, they can be wrong but sometimes a line has to be drawn and the criticism aint always unfounded.
