Today after witnessing a Muslim women learner driver dressed in full Muslim clothing with just her eyes showing almost pile the car into a roundabout.

Does anyone else think it's ridiculous that they can use a car with such impaired vision?

If it did impair their vision I think you'd be bang on. But it doesn't, does it? If you can see their eyes then surely their eyes can see everything else. It's their face that's covered up, not their eyes.

Yes, nothing should restrict your field of view - veils, baseball caps on sideways (this in particular as they look complete kn08s),hoodies etc.

I also think those who wear glasses with the thick arms (on the glasses) are impaired too, it's like blinkers on a horse.

Plus if an offence takes place , how do you ID the driver? If its a front facing speed camera (the sort that pictures the driver too) then they can't positively say who is driving.

Yes I think visibility and the safety of other road users should be the only consideration - religion should be excluded completely.

I'm not sure whether or not it impairs their vision (in france women have been fined for driving while wearing one for exactly that reason though) but my view is the same as Jay's. If it did impair the peripheral vision then yet I'd ban it entirely whilst driving, if it doesnt then there's no reason to ban it. I'm sure it would be simple to prove either way and I suspect it has already been investigated.

I'd ban them everywhere, not just driving. Security risk at its best.

They are not allowed to drive in the home of Islam, Saudi Arabia, so why should they be allowed to drive here?

Many years ago, student days, and aided by an African Woodbine or two, I attempted to drive the length of the road we were living on blindfolded...Hellishly difficult.

How tight is it to their heads, when they turn to the left eg does it move in perfectly with their head or does their head move slightly inside it if you know what I mean. Thus limiti g their vision for a few secs

Always amazes me seeing this especially when some of them where dark sun glasses too.

Should be one of the questions asked when insuring the car. It has to carry an element of risk and therefore an increased premium.
I once followed a woman down the rapids at centre parcs in all this gear. She just looked like a big bundle of rags.

How do you know it impairs their vision? I wear spectacles, just my peripheral vision isn't great because I don't have lenses wrapping around my head.

She nearly piled up the car? I've seen other people doing that who aren't wearing any head wear, but your assumption is that is why she nearly crashed.

Do I like that women wear that - no, but I also don't like lads who wear their trousers half way down their arse, you start banning clothes just because you don't happen to like it and where do you stop?

Yes I think it is dangerous. Surely it must impair their vision, turning their heads or looking over their shoulders could cause it to obstruct their view or even make the head gear move so it does.

I also don't think it's right that someone should hide their identity when driving.

Safety of others should be paramount. Do you have any accident statistics to prove women in burcas cause more accidents than 17-25 year olds?

What happens when they're at airport passport control?

What happens when they need a shave or to wash their faces?

OK we build in a joke or two into this thread, but in all seriousness, they should be banned in our country, on the basis of a potential security threat. I am certin that terrorists will use this tactic at some point, if they haven't already.

No but I didn't make that comparison and my answer was a direct response to should Muslim women be allowed to drive wearing a burqa.
