Anyone know where i can find information on the ale trail. Belive its a train you can get on and visit local villages and stop for a drink in each village. Barnsley to Huddersfield i belive. Any help will be apreciated
I did it last year and it was a quality day out. Unfortunately you get a few pillocks who can't handle their ale giving other people a bad name. Best places are Stalybridge and Marsden.
Not worthless. If we're going to get any abuse at least it will be shared out rather than one of us taking the full brunt.
I keep hearing it's a nightmare these days. Loads of kids, acting the goyt and puking all over the streets.
I live in one of the villages Slaithwaite. It's a nightmare on a weekend with the numbers doing it and also the lack of intelligence of most. Noticed getting off the train on Saturday (coming back from the game) that police were now on the station to control the behaviour. If your thinking of doing it would suggest avoiding weekend. Some great pubs and good beers
I looked into it but sounds like it's turned into to a Stag and Hen type **** up. Fancy dress, larger drinking, urinating in peoples gardens. May as well go to Blackpool or Barnsley.
Real Ale trail has become 'a monster' according to CAMRA expert Bob Tomlinson http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/local-west-yorkshire-news/2013/04/04/real-ale-trail-has-become-a-monster-according-to-camra-expert-bob-tomlinson-86081-33112969/
We did it Monday before Xmas, there were 12 of us with another party of about 30 taking the same route at the same time. Started at Stalybridge and finished in Dewsbury before a last few in Wakey. It was a good laugh not too rowdy but I've heard weekends in the summer are a bit Wild West
You could also try Sheffield to Manchester, stopping off at Padley, Hathersage, Bamford (probably not), Hope and Edale.
It's been ruined since BBC showed it on TV on one of their shows. Instead of real ale lovers having a nice quiet drink it's been taken over by idiots. Hen parties, stag parties, people pissing in public etc. One story in the Huddersfield Examiner mentioned how one old lady had a guy walk in her house and randomly ask to use her loo. Lots of bad stories..... https://www.google.co.uk/#safe=off&...82,d.d2k&fp=53f5f1a9a6608bc7&biw=1024&bih=675
Theres loads of rail ale trails. As long as you find a line that as a real ale pub near the station you are sorted. The Huddersfield -Stalybridge as become very popular. We just did one between Barnsley and Huddersfield and it was good. Often it seems they just have a bus replacement service onto Stalybridge which makes that not worth including. We generally find a nice town or city with plenty real ale pubs, and the women go shopping after a pub lunch and meet up with us after!
