Sounds like he's doing a Robins to me.

This was the whole reason Hillcroft was appointed!.. because we needed a management team that weren't only interested in the amount of money we're spending. The budget was cut for a reason - that we can't spend money we haven't got. Flicker spoke about ploughing more money into the first team. Now hopefully this is just to do with player luxuries / facilities / Mellon&Scott but if it's to do with transfers, I'm afraid this is only heading one way. I really do hope we're not just going round in circles. Surely Flicker knows that the financial situation won't have changed in the last 24 months. I'm just hoping these 'assurances' aren't based on finances.

Flicker should sign the contract and put the fans, board and players at rest.

We do have the Stones money, fa cup money, wages saved by releasing players and a cut price team last year.
We must has a small budget, but the Don can't plead too much poverty, he claimed it would cost 6 million to be relegated therefore flicker must be able to spend 4 million and the club will save 2 million?

I didn't realise you were on the board DT; please tell us exactly what the budget is for next season and what the T's & C's are of Flickers contract.

    dream on mate

they will f u c k about and lose flicker, then the ST's will falter, that will make the announcement we have to cut the cloth blah blah blah blah... we will then scratch about for a Netto standard manager...which will mean we are out of the transfer market till the last few days before the season kicks off... then its cheap and cheerful again... and the usual struggle to stay up. This is Oakwell mate....this is what happens. We find quality ..we piss it against the wall. Its that simple.

it obviously doesn't work as simply as that. the costs of running Barnsley FC in the Championship are hugely different to what they would be in League 1. every team you're up against is also operating on massively bigger budgets

there is no war chest. last years figures tell you that. we effectively broke even, and that was after a funding gap of c2.4m through loss of revenue. largely due to reduced attendances

flicker knows our finances. he wont be asking the Club to go into debt, to meet his ambitions. he just won't. i would imagine the 'assurances' are over things like transfer policy (i.e. not selling your crown jewels on the last day of the transfer window), 1st team budget (i.e. getting the lion's share), accommodation, travel, training camps etc

bottom line is we only have what we have. i think flicker should have a big say in how the operating budget is carved up, but we shouldn't be going into debt for anyone. not even flicker. i want him to sign - really badly - but even i draw the line at that

as for those routinely hammering the Club - put your money where your mouth is, buy a season ticket and help increase that bargaining power

If half a season of good results suddenly turns you into the most sought after manager in the league then good luck. Flicker would do well to remember he could be back at Rochdale with Keith if the board had not decided to give him a go.and don't tell me he wasn't even second choice because I remember when a certain Danny Wilson left us after pleat turned down the pigs job he said I don't c care if I'm seventh choice I would take the job.
