Why is everybody under the impression Steele will have to take a pay cut? Just because you read it on Vital Barnsley? Give me strength. Not saying it's not a possibility but it's not even worth discussing until we hear something.
Steele all day long. He's the only one we have zero chance of replacing with the budget we have. Hill tried with Alnwick and look how that went. I'd give Steele the keys to the town hall if it meant he signed a new contract.
Are they mutually exclusive then? I'd like us to keep all of them. Steele and Perkins in particular are both key players and I'd be gutted to lose either of them. As for O'Grady, he isn't our player to lose but would like to see us sign him. Craine - is it Frasier or Niles that we are signing?
All of them To try and pick out an individual in that list over another is a pointless & illogical exercise and has no relevance to the situation facing David Flitcroft.
Re: All of them Cranie. We haven't had a reliable centre half like him for a while. Steele is a cracking keeper, don't get me wrong BUT he has got the odd mistake in him that could cost us the game. Want to keep all four though! Perkins was one of my favourite players but I don't think he came across that well in the interview he did with Skysports the other week. Also, he was fairly poor over the last few weeks, except the Huddersfield game. Again, of course I'd keep him. O'Grady is my favourite player overall but Cranie just pips it for me!!!
If I was pushed for a decision, i'd go for Cranie. Defenders of his quality are at a premium. I'd love for Steele to stay, although I think there could be suitable replacements. I like the idea of signing an ageing goalkeeper who's acting as back up to one of the premier league teams, there's a few decent keepers knocking about who aren't getting a game. Thankfully Perkins is still under contract for another year although i'd be more than comfortable having Dawson, Mellis and Etuhu as a midfield trio. COG is a quality striker, although he isn't really ours to lose so I don't necessarily think you could include him in this sort of poll. It's like including Marcus Tudgay, iff you get my meaning.
I thought that at first but I think Perkins gives us another dimension. Dawson and Etuhu are relatively similar in that they're strong, physical players who can also play. However, Perkins has that ability to wriggle out of trouble and go past players with quick feet. I think he offers more going forward than the other two. That's why I'd always want him in the midfield, partnered by one of the other two.
